69scode 10 Report post Posted October 29, 2014 Does anyone have a picture of the rear license plate light mounted. My car came in pieces and I'm not sure how the light mounts. It looks like it bolts to the bumper, but the light I have has a shield that appears to block the light from shining down. I have a diagram in the shop manual, but that just shows about where it goes. I searched and didn't find my answer. Thanks in advance.

Brian Conway 264 Report post Posted October 29, 2014 Pretty simple really. Look at your parts; glass shield , glass shield holder and bracket. The whole thing can only go together one way and the curled edge on the bumper mounting bracket ' legs ' fits over the bumper edge. Brian

69scode 10 Report post Posted October 29, 2014 Thanks for the help. I tried it with the "legs" over the bumper like you said. It just didn't look right. I'll give it another look.

Brian Conway 264 Report post Posted October 30, 2014 I case your wondering why the light shield is blocking a portion of the bulb ? The shield directs the light downward. Without it, or if the tag light is in backwards; it lights up the back of the car under the gas cap. Brian

miketyler 15 Report post Posted October 30, 2014 And dont forget the rubber drip guard. Dont buy the CJP rubber one. Mine isnt a year or two old and is already cracking. Maybe some intertube rubber orr neoprene would be a better material

When I ordered the light, I ordered this rubber piece and have no idea where it goes. Anyone have pictures. Thanks

Hope it is of some use. they do look tricky when they are disassembled and off the car. I seem to recall they are a bit of a puzzle box to get into position., But it does in fact go into position with the bumper in place. Best of luck. jmlay 80 Report post Posted November 1, 2014 I do not know where CJ's sources the rubber piece. Scott who runs the 428cj website also owns Muscle Car Research where he sells his own reproduction of this rubber piece.: https://www.musclecarresearch.com/
