hood twist locks

69 fastback. The modifications to the engine compartment has made it imposable to put the hood latch back in. Has anyone put just twist locks in

and is it safe to drive with just the locks ?

I wouldn't count on the twist locks since they are not positive locking.

I would not rely on the twist locks, they can twist open, and they can suck down the area around the lock as it is only holding the skin of the hood.

Hood pins are correct for a 1969 Mustang, and as it happens, are far more secure than twist locks.

If you are going with pins, you can easily weld in a reinforcement strip on the radiator support, where the pins are bolted in.

Production race cars use pins/latches to secure the hood. I see a lot with the slide-lock style now, and whether by racing regulations or choice, I see 4 per hood.

 

I guess it will be determined by the available mounting points you have under the hood, following your modifications. Maybe post a pic of what your engine bay looks like, to help the forum give you better suggestions, and they would be interesting to see as well.

Use hoodpins. I know they work. These are the Ford Racing ones, not the original thinner style. The wire snapped, but the pin stayed in place.
