Recommended Posts

Got my wheels in last night. they look awesome! hoping for my tires to get in tomorrow, they fit good snug but I'm hoping I ordered the right BS and everything every expensive to screw up :(

- 17X8 BS: 4.75

- 17X9.5 BS: 5.75

Tires are

- 245/45/17 - Front

- 275/40/17 - Rear.

What do you guys think?

Im going 17x8

Im trying to get my head around all this - using dodgestangs chart http://www.dodgestang.com/Tire%20Fitment%20Guide%2069-70.pdf

Is that the minimum or maximum backspacing I should have?

according to the chart I want to have 4.5"

the rims I'm looking at are 17x8, and I can get them with at 35mm offset - which comes out to 5.8"  backspacing.  Does that mean it will not fit?

thanks!

With that offset you will need a 1" spacer. Ideally you want + 12mm offset to get 4.5 backspace. I have 18x8 with + 6mm offset which is 4.25 backspace. With the 245/40/18 tires I may need to roll the gard lip on the front

I went with 18's on my build as the market is favoring this size, at least for now. 17's do have a nice side profile and a great sidewall to rim "ratio", but the tire sizes are a little limited. Anyway, I ordered mine a while back to be able to build the car to fit the "slightly" larger sizes. These are Formula 43 RAD 14 in their Laguna grey for the centers, and a brushed tented clear for the rim. The back part (3 piece rim) was done in black to help hide brake dust. The rears are 18" x 12" with a 7" back spacing to fit a stock width rear end, with a 2" mini tub and rolled lips. These are meant to run a 335-30-18 tire.

The fronts are 18" x 9.5" with a 4.75" back spacing running a 275-35-18. This is a large package for the front, but I wish I could go bigger. The spindle is the limiting factor going inboard or they would be bigger. The fenders will have to be modified in order to cover these up. With my intended ride height, and the T/A nose drop I will have to stretch the front out about 1.5" so nothing rubs.

ok - thanks so much!

so I could get them with 1" adapters - adapters being safer over spacers is what i'm reading?

I'm trying to get a more modern rim and I'm really liking these - but the lowest offset on 17x8" is 35.    http://enkei.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/KOJIN.pdf

This thread should be a sticky. On the 3 or 4 Mustang sites I have visited since the mid 90's, tires, wheels and back space continue to be a hot topic. This thread hits pretty much all the right areas.
