Direction of bleeder valve on Disc Brakes

Recommended Posts

A friend of mine is telling me that I have the front disc brakes on the wrong side.

The 69 Sportsroof had drum brakes all around. I upgraded the front to disc.

He says I should flip flop the disc so the bleeder valve is pointed upward and not horizontally.

I looked at my 73 Mach 1 and the disc/bleeder valves are the same position

Thanks Mark

Some of the Ford calipers have the fluid situated in such a way in the caliper that the bleeder is not at the top. I saw a thread at mustangsteve.com where Steve posted the applicable caliper. I can't locate that thread, but I had not seen that before. I can't remember which year and model it was on. Maybe an email to Steve could get you the info. And while looking at another car for correct assembly often works, sometimes others install things wrong. Good luck.

9T02R factory front disc brakes. Pictures are always good. The bleeders on my car are virtually horizontal but do point slightly upward. A couple picture of the hoses as these are sometimes a cause for concern. Brian

Not real sure where that came from, just had it in my files of mustang info. I've actually had to remove my caliper bolts and tilt the caliper to get all the air out.

Ha! Thanks for the backup Grabber70Mach, that be the illustration.

Glad to be able to give you the back-up Bob.
