1969 Fender Extension Grill Trim

My painter installed the thin chrome grill trim on both head light fender extensions but I forgot to give him the thick trim--flat, chrome edge, silver frost paint.

 

I see the tabs where the fender extension screws go through this trim piece. Is there ANY WAY, of installing this without removing the fender extensions?

 

I am going to guess the answer is no, but.....

 

My first BUBBA thought was to loosen the bucket screws and then trim the tabs on the chrome trim so that they would slide around the fender extension screw (see pic).

 

Getting to those screws in the fender extension is a PITA. I really dont want to take those off.

None that I am aware of. The proper way is to remove the thin trim first.

can I leave the head light bucket on or does that have to come off as well? After looking at it last night, looks like there are two screws that hold that thin trim on that pass through the wide trim. Screws look impossible to get to but....

 

I was thinking the whole HL bucket had to come off.

The whole headlight bucket needs to be removed as it is the only way to access ALL the nuts holding on the narrow front trim.

I have the narrow front trim already on. Its the thick one that is part of the grill surround. Take a look at the pic. Looks like only two screws pass through the grill surround trim.

I took all of the front trim off and reinstalled without removing the head light buckets..

Ill have to re-look at the asym manual. I thought the thin trim was held on by the bolts that held the head light bucket/fender extension onto the fender.

 

But that doesnt really make sense.
