taxlex 10 Report post Posted October 6, 2013 The aluminum brackets fell off of my side window. (See attached photo) Do you know what kind of glue I should use to put them back on? It looks like the aluminum oxidized and the old glue stopped sticking. Whatever I use must be able to fill a 1/8 inch gap between the glass and aluminum. I don't know if silicone glue would be strong enough. The original stuff was hard and not flexible like silicone. The guy at the auto store sold me Bedding & Glazing compound. (I don't trust he knows what he is talking about)
Mach 351 10 Report post Posted October 6, 2013 I took mine to a local auto glass place and had them glue it in for me. They have the right glue, but more importantly they had the tape used to evenly space the glass in the channels. Without the tape the glass may not be centered in the brackets and will definitely screw up trying to adjust the window after reinstallment. I think they charged me $5 per bracket. Cheaper than buying a whole tube of glue and roll of tape.
taxlex 10 Report post Posted October 7, 2013 Good idea. I never thought of that. Thanks.
mustangstofear 608 Report post Posted October 7, 2013 I always clean the old guides out completely, then put them in a vise and squeeze the channel a little tighter than the factory. Nert I'll fill the channel with Essex Urethane. You do have to make sure the angle of the channel is correct or the door glass will never seal right. Mountaineerfan 44 Report post Posted October 7, 2013 On the off chance someone would improperly glue the windows, what's the best way to remove the windows from the urethane? Theoretically, of course! :)
mustangstofear 608 Report post Posted October 7, 2013 You would have a much better chance of removing if it was set in urethane over any thing else. I would spray it with release gent first, then start cutting it out with a long knife. Along knife is a long handled knife that uses utility knife blades.
