rawlinss 14 Report post Posted July 4, 2013 Have a new 20 gallon gas tank and sending unit in my 69 coupe. Gauge reads Empty when tank is only half full... Any Ideas how to fix this problem?? Thanks, Sandie
j69302 11 Report post Posted July 4, 2013 The replacement sending units are horribly inaccurate. Assuming it is working properly and just indicating wrong, you can bend the arm with the float to adjust the reading. For example, since the indication is below the actual amount, bend the float arm down. The will in effect lift the arm higher and change the indication. Midlife 814 Report post Posted July 5, 2013 A lot of aftermarket sending units and gauges don't match one another for expected signals. If you are using Ford products, then they all should work. It is possible that the new gas float has a pin-hole in it...worth checking out. Does it read full when you have 20 gallons in it?
rawlinss 14 Report post Posted July 5, 2013 yes, reads full when it has 20 gallons. Leaning towards bend the float arm down. Will try this... Thanks
Midlife 814 Report post Posted July 5, 2013 If it reads full with 20 gallons of gas, does it come down reasonably quickly as you use the gas, or does it stay up there for a few gallons? If the latter situation, bending the float won't help much. If the former, the sending unit may be faulty (open circuit at halfthrow). It sounds like the gauge and the sending unit might be incompatible.

PaleRider 12 Report post Posted July 9, 2013 How bout your other gauges - mine all read low. I'm guessing its relatged to constant volt regulator. You use to be able to adjust them - new ones you can't
