FrozenMonkey 12 Report post Posted June 12, 2013 I've been doing some research on this recently and believe I can give you some good info. Here is a kit for our cars. You can piece together your own kit for less though. http://www.reenmachine.com/shop/product.php?productid=16136&cat=0&page=1 I haven't heard of anyone having any difficulty doing the switch. It's pretty straightforward provided you buy the right conversion relay kit. Make sure the one you get has a fuse or breaker on it. The stock fuse setup obviously can't handle this kind of power from the headlights. I think the only thing you may have to do is cut out a bit of the headlight bucket to make the new housings fit but thats no biggie. Quote Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

shaun071 62 Report post Posted June 13, 2013 I've recently changed over to Halogen headlights on my coupe. Mine were H4 dual filament for the outer headlights 60/55w xenon bulbs and H1 for the high beams with 55w bulbs. I've just added relays for both high and low beams and used the stock harness. The lights were much better. Later I will convert to real HIDs with ballasts etc for even better lights. The left lights fitted the housings but the right required a couple of cuts for the housings to fit. I wound up changing the headlight buckets on the right to Australian Fairlane ones which the housings fit perfectly. All up cost was $15 each for the H1 inner housings, $10 for H1 bulbs, $40 for the outer housings and bulbs and $10 for 2 relays Quote Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

Anyone have any good/bad experiences doing this? one thing you need to consider is that unless they are DOT approved for your car, Xenon lights are illegal to install and their use on the road can garner you a ticket. Cayenne06 10 Report post Posted June 14, 2013 Have the same kit on my car and installed it myself. I bought NPD repop headlight buckets and cut them out, keeping my originals. Only issue I had was getting the correct bucket and lamp combos. Very easy to mix them up because they look similar. Headlights are a huge improvement. The one thing I kinda was looking for was the diamond cut.. However looking at @BigDuke6 's post I might need to be a little more careful. Rather not give the cops too many reasons to pull me over. @Cayenne06 I was trying to decide if I should buy new buckets to cut. Seems to be a common practice. Unfortunately the car is off to paint right now so I can't do much with it. Was hoping to have it back by now as the driving season in MN is short and time is already ticking by. I bought set of 7" H4 headlight globes for Bullitt Mustang and had ballasts and D2S bulb setups from G35 to use with the halogen base converters. After seeing that I was going to have to open up the holes in the buckets, I opted not to use them. I ended up buying new set of Sylvania's that looked like sealed beams but they actually have fixed halogen bulbs inside. I have heard about placing HID's in halogen reflective globes and blinding on coming drivers at night. Didn't want to go there.
