Dash painting

Can someone tell me what color the dash is supposed to be painted.

I believe it is dark charcoal metalic. NPD sells it.

The metal lower dash section is what is painted the dark charcoal color.

The dark charcoal is actually a metallic dark gray and not a black. This is one of those debated areas of which color is correct. There are some pictures out there of original dashes that are black and others that are the metallic charcoal. If you are concerned about what color it actually was, look for areas of overspray on the backside. Sometimes even under the trim caps adjacent to the radio and end of the dash will give you an idea of what the unfaded color is, but doesn't always guarantee an original color.

take a look at the backside of your glove box lid where the metal is smooth. mine was painted there and it was easy to see the metallic and color. plus that spot shouldn't get sun faded.

 

it's hard to see the metallic on the grain.

I think the charcoal metallic paint they sell is actually a very thin viscous lacquer. Watch your application carefully as buildup can fill in the surface grain and soften the details. I had good luck with the Accumatch products.
