fvike 173 Report post Posted February 22, 2015 Got 90% of the paint off the body, so I'll soon start with the valences, trunk lid and front fenders. Trying to get primer on after easter. This quarter panel has a lot of dents in it.

fvike 173 Report post Posted February 26, 2015 Took the fenders with me to the garage, along with the valences and trunk lid. Good to have them on the car again. Soon they'll be paint free.
Total Control Products 24 Report post Posted May 22, 2015 Hi Frode,I haven't been on this forum in a while and was checking out your thread. I'm glad to see it's still coming along. I tired to send you a PM but it looks like your inbox is full. I want to comment on this photo:The piece of hardware that attaches the truss braces to the monte carlo bar is correct but you should bolt the rod ends on the bottom. That will give them a more direct, flat line of tension/compression so it will be stronger.Like this.

fvike 173 Report post Posted May 25, 2015 Hi Carl, Thanks for the tips. I'm moving along ever so slowly.. I became a father for the first time in March, so progress on the Mustang has suffered a bit. I really just have a couple of days work left to get the car to primer, just gotta find the time to do it! ;)

fvike 173 Report post Posted June 13, 2015 Got a bit more work done today, so now the only thing left is to removed the old paint on the firewall to get the chassis ready. Still have the front fenders, deck lid and rear valance left too.

fvike 173 Report post Posted July 9, 2015 There's been some serious progress on the 'stang the past weeks. I've stripped bothe fenders for paint, and delivered the car to the body shop. There's still a lot of work on the body, but they've done a lot. Started with the drivers side fender. Looking good. Some filler, but not so bad. Used my MIRKA electric sander with 80 grit, then 120, then 240 grit. A lot of filler over the wheel arch. There was some serious dents on top of the fender. The Passenger fender was a bit worse, and had been sectioned from another fender at one time. I found some minor rust under the bondo on both fenders so, I put rust converter on them, and sanded them clean again. Clean. And clean! This was 240 grit paper. fvike 173 Report post Posted July 9, 2015 Then it was off to the body shop! At the body shop. I had marked off stuff I wanted done, They corrected the shipping dent in the Dynacorn hood. Hood is primed. So is the front valance. Welded in rear footwells. This is the right rear wheelhouse that has been modified to accept more meat. fvike 173 Report post Posted July 9, 2015 The weld on the sectioned fender has been cleaned up. This is the underside of the drivers fender, that had dents on the top. It has been fixed. A bit blurry image, but this is the same fender with repairs, and it also shows the Boss 429 reinforcement. Some repairs to the quarter panel. I had a accident once and damaged that corner. Also race track related. :P A lot of repairs to this quarter, it was real ugly. It may not look so, but it is smooth now. There will be very little bondo on this car. fvike 173 Report post Posted July 9, 2015 There was a smal dent along the top side of the scoop. The scoop will fit in nicely. The scoops and quarter panel extensions have been smoothed too. It's nice to have the car looking like a '69 again. This is the passenger fender and headlight housing. Marcus, who's doing the repairs wasn't happy with how they meet and will fix this too. He just needed the gasket first. They've also sanded down the roof, so there will be a lot less bondo on top now, than before. Finally, where the antenna hole used to be. I'm now gonna get the doors, rear valance and cowl delivered so that the car can be primered.
TexasEd 188 Report post Posted July 9, 2015 Wow, I'd love to get mine done like you're doing it. The Passenger fender was a bit worse, and had been sectioned from another fender at one time. I guess I don't understand this, why would someone make one fender out of two? I suppose they didn't have access to a whole one? Patching a small corner or something would make sense. Must have been in a fender bender and damaged the front end where it meets the headlight bucket. I like the antenna delete too.
fvike 173 Report post Posted July 9, 2015 I was told this was something they did back in the day.
Guillaume69 150 Report post Posted July 9, 2015 Geez, all that body work looks familiar... Looking great! As far as repairing fenders, when you live overseas and do not have access to an APO (military mail), shipping costs on large parts can be prohibitive. So when you can't replace, you fix what you have. G
SWPruett 83 Report post Posted July 10, 2015 Great update Frode! Glad to see the car is coming back to life!
fvike 173 Report post Posted July 10, 2015 I was back at the body shop today. We're polishing my brother's wheels today so I HAD to go and see if they would fit, and they did. :D This is an 12" wide wheel with 335s. My target is 11" wheel with 315s.
