Cheers for that :cool: Chris is toying with the idea of a few mods to the engine, that's probably where I might come into the story as I rebuilt the 351c in his 71 Glad to see someone is going to save that car. Good Luck and will be watching the build. Another question 70Nightmare, To the best of your knowledge, is the engine bone stock & has it had any overhaul work carried out in the past... ie rebore/rings/crank grind etc etc ? Chris has a huge shipment of parts on its way as I type, obviously shipping & import duty is a killer for us over here, so he's tried to get most of the big stuff in one hit. Mad Machs 13 Report post Posted June 16, 2014 Snap inspection tonight to see how the lads were getting on with this project to end all projects. Happy to report that Chris has not been idle & the car is stripped right back to bare bones, exposing yet more hideous nastiness & evidence of collision damage. Planning is at advanced stage now & panels are being sourced & the jig is ready, substantial lengths of box section are being readied to be tack welded in to hold everything straight while some major sections of the car are removed & replaced with new. So without further ado, some pics- Righthand cowl edge, has taken a proper biff at one time & had been 'lovingly' beaten back into shape Transmission tunnel showing signs of a wallop up the Khyber Right hand floor, pop riveted patch on pop riveted patch- Left hand spring tower, not exactly sure what had been going on here... On another vintage mustang forum someone informed me that they use to see the car for sale in a muddy area. I'maassuming that why it rusted out so bad. The infamous tranny tunnel rear, Burt the body guy pointed out that the floor was a load higher that side, due to the r/h chassis rail taking a biff. Bit tricky to demonstrate as the floor is off to the knackers yard. braced up to keep things straight Open plan Not much left to see really... Daughter..helping.. I agree, my car isn't a mach and ive got many hours and money sunk into it and a lot of money and time left to go. Its a 70 fastback, my fav car...therefore worth saving!!! Mad Machs 13 Report post Posted October 11, 2014 Just taken a jaunt over to inspect progress, Chris & the lads at Coach House Motors haven't been slacking, everything is much more solid now, all the spot welds will made continuous once on the rotisserie, the box section bracing will remain in place for a little longer & will make a good secure mounting point. Mad Machs 13 Report post Posted October 11, 2014 (edited) Thank you gentlemen, however, as much as I would like to take the credit for this one, it is the car & work of my friend Chris, who elected to save this car as a project, interesting to note that he been learning to weld & fabricate on this car, with a little guidance from his two brothers in-law who own the garage. I think he has done rather well! So to this end, I am merely a reporter, Chris asked me to record his work & post it on Mustang Owners Club GB site & Facebook, when someone pointed out that the cars beginnings were recorded on this very forum by 70NIGHTMARE, I thought it churlish not to sign up & continue the story. Fantastic 57 Report post Posted October 31, 2014 (edited) Hey all. I wanted to comment to nightmare that I've been there. When I bought my car I was so excited to find something I could afford and I wanted to learn. I didn't want to own a '69 Mustang, I wanted to build one! I ended up replacing every single piece of metal on the car until it was brand new, minus the roof. In my case it actually worked out...sort of. One huge difference was that I avoided welding anything. I used self tapping screws and replaced each piece one at a time rather than cutting the entire car away. When I was done, I took it to a shop that checked it on the frame machine. They made minor adjustments and then they brought in a welder to weld the entire car. I did a lot of it, but I was there to learn. The shop thought the self tapping screws were awesome. There were times in the process that I had to step back and undo a lot of screws, but that was much easier than undoing welds. In the end, I was offered another body to continue my project with. The new body was a Mach with better options and the body that I built became the basis of a whole different project. I have some uTube videos about the whole adventure that I will post later. Been there, done that. I can't say I would do it again, but I am glad to say that I did it once. Fantastic!
