Mike65 512 Report post Posted December 6, 2024 Since I am waiting until after Christmas to get a new battery for the Mustang (& it is too cold to work on it now) I decided to do some other stuff. I put the car up on 4 jack stands & removed the wheels to bleed the brakes, installed the new front shocks I never installed, removed the front valance & measured & mocked up the front spoiler & drilled the mounting holes before painting the valance. I am slao stripping off all the old paint so I can prime it next week when the weather is warmer. 100_2385 by Michael Grentus, on Flickr

Mike65 512 Report post Posted December 17, 2024 Today I spent some time in the garage working on the Mustang. I finished stripping off the old paint & surface rust from the front valance & removed the gravel guard to start removing the old paint. I finished installing the Koni STR.T front shocks. When we moved from NJ to Virginia I must have lost the lower shock mount hardware. I tried at several places to find nuts for the shocks with no luck so I sent an e mail to Koni asking them if I could buy a package of the lower mounting hardware. The person who responded to my e mail asked for my address that they would mail me out a pack of the lower mounting hardware. I got it 3 days later, awesome customer service. 2 kblagron and RPM reacted to this
Vicfreg 800 Report post Posted December 17, 2024 Some pictures from the Savannah national Mustang show Rich Ackerman bought his Concourse driven 1973 convertible, which won a gold award My car also received a gold award in the modified class, 498 out of a possible, 500 points. I was pretty excited.

Mike65 512 Report post Posted December 27, 2024 I got the front valance & the stone guard completely stripped of paint & about 1/2 of the r/s headlight bucket/fender extension. 100_2397 by Michael Grentus, on Flickr 100_2396 by Michael Grentus, on Flickr
Mike65 512 Report post Posted December 28, 2024 Today I removed the r/s front fender & removed the headlight bucket so I could finish stripping off the old paint. Messed with the brake line again & it is still leaking. I do not know what else to do. Any suggestions? The brake lines are all new stock replacement lines, & new hoses the run from the hard line to the caliper.
Vicfreg 800 Report post Posted December 28, 2024 Hi Mike Where is it leaking? At the caliper? If so, what kind of brake calipers do you have? Post a pic of where it is leaking Vic 1 RPM reacted to this
Mike65 512 Report post Posted December 30, 2024 Vic, it is leaking where the hardline screws into the flex line going to the brake caliper. 100_2398 by Michael Grentus, on Flickr

Mike65 512 Report post Posted December 31, 2024 No, they are not supposed to be. When I ordered them, I ordered the standard lines. All the other connections are fine. How can I tell if they are in fact standard or stainless steel?

How can I tell if they are in fact standard or stainless steel? Hard to tell, some stainless steel is magnetic. You can try "copper flare gasket" to seal the flare. aslanefe 352 Report post Posted January 1 7 hours ago, Mike65 said: What size would I need? Sorry, can't remember the size, you might have to measure the steel line fitting diameter (should be about the size of the flare diameter) and get one that fits it. 1 Mike65 reacted to this
Mike65 512 Report post Posted January 22 I ordered some of the copper flare gaskets for a 3/16th" line. When I receive them & the weather warms up, I will install one & see if it stops the leak.
Mike65 512 Report post Posted February 9 Friday the temp outside was around 60° so I was out in the garage for a little while. I removed the hard brake line from the soft line going to the caliper & found what seemed to me like a little burr on the flare. I used some fine sandpaper on the burr until it felt smooth, installed the 3/16th" copper flare I bought, reinstalled the hard line & tightened the line up. pumped the brakes & so far it looks good. I will try it again today & report back. 1 RPM reacted to this
Mike65 512 Report post Posted February 10 Today I topped off the master cylinder with brake fluid & did a few more pumps of the brake pedal & the connection still looks dry. Next up bleed the brakes.
