Mike65 487 Report post Posted June 11, 2023 I have been working on the wiring in the trunk the last few weeks. I am doing a little at a time, like baby steps to get it done. Thanks to everyone who posted pics or responded to my post looking for info how to run the taillight harness so I can keep plugging along with the wiring. Not sure if you’re using a VHX Dash or not, but on mine, I ran a separate wire to the fuel tank to provide a ground for the VHX fuel gauge indication. I grounded it at one of the screws that attaches the tank to the body. On the American auto wire harness, the fuel sender wire is brown I believe. I just ran another black wire next to that all the way back to the trunk and on the other end there is a place to attach the ground wire on the VHX input box. I think it’s right next to the sender wire. I did this because I’m pretty sure that the manual said that was something that you should do. Another tip is make sure you install your tail lights before your rear bumper. Also, install the license plate lamp assembly into the bumper, before your mount it. This will make things a lot easier. Mike65 487 Report post Posted November 18, 2023 Over the last week I started bending the new fuel lines. I got the one from the tank to where I am going to place the inline filter made up & a piece cut for the next piece that will run from the filter to the torque box hole. I also had to cut away 2 of the old parking brake cable brackets that are going to be in the way of the new fuel lines since the brackets are no longer needed since I went to a center mount parking brake. Mike65 487 Report post Posted November 25, 2023 Got the Mustang up on jack stands & figured out where I want to place the inline fuel filter. I am going to mount the bracket & shield to the l/s rear floor pan out near the frame rail. I am going to drill a couple holes in the floor pan to install a couple nutserts to make it easy to remove when needed. Vicfreg 780 Report post Posted November 28, 2023 Nice shop and driveway....don't see any burnout marks on the driveway yet..... My buddy used a "mini-split" to cool/heat his shop that is about the same size as yours. He also has a few ceiling fans. The heat in the summer will likely be more of an issue than being cold in the winter. Bob, that fuel pump is cool, old school. I had a '64-1/2 Mustang with a "D" code 289 4 barrel years ago, and it had that style pump. I think that some of the old Ford 260 V8s used them as well. The engine was built with a water pump that had the outlet on the driver's side, but my radiator has the inlet on the passenger's side so I switched the to the proper water pump & the crank pulley that I had would not fit with the proper water pump. Mike65 487 Report post Posted June 28 I spent some time in the garage even with the heat, I installed a 18" 3 speed fan to keep the air moving. I have decided to go a different direction with my build. I installed a carb spacer & a Summit 600cfm carb, mechanical fuel pump, fuel line from the pump to the carb, crank pulley, pulley spacer, radiator, upper & lower radiator hoses. I guess you thought ahead and put a fuel pump eccentric on when you installed the timing chain. I have had trouble with posting pictures as well. I will try again. The site traffic seems like it is down to nearly zero. fyi, there is a National MCA show in Savannah in October. I am bringing my '70 there. Nice town to visit if you have not been there.
