Brake switch only works when brakes go to the floor.

Recommended Posts

My brake switch only works and lights the brakes when I hit the brakes hard. Here's a little history on the brakes: Brakes were converted to disk from drum. (I think it worked normal with drums) I went with a Baer system and added the proportioning valve. I haven't set the proportioning valve yet because I'd like to get the brake lights working correctly. It appears the brake switch is the culprit. The thing is the brake light do come on and when pushed hard. This tells me the brake switch is activating the brake lights but not when I tap the brakes lightly. Could this be a bad switch? Is there a way to adjust the brake switch to be sensitive when I hit the brakes lightly? One other note, I did the LED conversion so there's another pickle in my shenanigans.

I'm sure someone has crossed this bridge and dealt with this before. I couldn't find anything in the search bar. Any suggestions?

Thanks

Just bend the gold plate slightly into a V shape toward the pedal mounting hole, see pic. You will need to remove it to do it. And you may have to do it a couple of times to get it right. So bend it and test, bend it some more and test.

Good tip!
