Need a rare drip rail molding urgently!

Recommended Posts

Check the photo. I need a piece of metal that I never knew was even there before tackling the GT2 project. Check the photo:

driprailmolding001.jpg

The camera is right above the rear wheel so you are looking down on the rear of the left side drip rail of this 69. The arrows indicate where my missing molding starts and ends. Top arrow points to where the blue part of the drip rail actually ends as a welded part of the car and the infamous screw on molding takes over. That then continues down to the bottom arrow.

So the big questions are:

a) what is that even called?

b) who's got a pair!

:confused1:

If and when you do get that metal piece installed, do a quick trial fit of the chrome boomerang to see if it mounts parallel to the roof like your sample picture does. I did not do this when I mocked up body panels before painting. Afer installing, I found out that my boomerangs do not fit parallel and stick out at the top on one side and out at the bottom on the other. Grrrrrrrrrr!

I know this is an older thread but I have been chasing the same things for over 3 years and the worst thing was My car was painted before I realised I was missing them.

For all others chasing them reproductions are available through CJ Pony Parts part No. DRC4

They come as a complete kit 4 pieces, 2 longer sections (left and right) to replace the upper most gutter and then 2 smaller pieces (left and right) which are the 2 pieces that no one else seems to remanufacture, mind you like most aftermarket items need some massaging to get to fit correctly, mainly trimming on my car.

Here is the link

http://www.cjponyparts.com/DRIP-RAIL-CHANNEL-PAIR-FASTBACK-1969-1970/p/DRC4/

Someone else here had mentioned to me this is what I had required but when you look at the link it does not show you the 2 required pieces and only mentions a pair of channels and not that there are 4 pieces. I just took a chance and ordered them after frustration had completely set in after many emails had not gotten me any closer to what I was looking for. I do live in Australia and I can't walk in to a dozen places and show them exactly what I was looking for until someone had what I was looking for, and the 5 suppliers of mustang parts within 300 miles all told me that they were not available and I would have to make something myself.

The drips you need are not part of the CJ parts you ordered im afraid to say ,I went the same route and now have 2 main drip channels with no need for them. The drips I have are availale although not the best shape.I was going to have a sheet metal shop use them to replicate since then I have accuired another pair that will suffice. They are very difficult to obtain as you know.

I received the lot when I ordered mine less than 3 weeks ago and received them last week, I will post up photos of them when I get a chance.

I will also send an email to CJs and post up what reply I get as I may have just been lucky to get all 4 pieces.

Thats great for you I did some checking and I did not purchase through CJ, I purchased from Golden Leaf on Dynacorns advice.I remenber now how it went .I phoned Dynacorn for advice as they obouisly need them for their shells. They said they got them from Golden Leaf and gave me a contact number.I talked to the salesman and decribed exactly what I needed he informed me that I would need to purchase the entire drip rail set as the quarter window drips could not be seperated. When I receicved them of course the parts I needed were not part of the package.Im still pissed and out 100.00 and change.I was going to return but Ive been a little busy and never called back to inform them.Looking forward to seeing some pics of the parts in new condition.

I have received a reply from Scott at CJs

Below is a copy of the original email and his reply.

I have replied again, asking if I was a 1 off lucky f##k or if he was just not up to speed with what they were supplying, I will keep you updated with his response.

Cheers Rodney

Rodney,

Thanks for the heads up. The part you’re inquiring about is no longer produced. You’ll have to find it through a salvage yard or other source.

Thank you,

Scott Wagner

Importance: High

Hi,

I have received my order and am very happy.

I do have a question as I have been chasing the smaller sections of drip rail that fit between the boomerang and the car body, They were supplied as part of your drip rail channels DRC4. I have posted this up on www.69stang.com as I know many others have also been chasing this part and no one else seems to remanufacture them, I have had another member on the site tell me that I was wrong and they do not come as part of DRC4 but they did with mine.

Could you please confirm if they do come as part of DRC4 so I can let others know

Cheers Rodney
