Retrofitting Instrument Panel w/ Autometer Gauges

Recommended Posts

Sorry, but no. I did a quick search on stangnet, but couldn't find any of the threads about his assembly. There is one thread that has commentary, but the pics are long gone. Corpse has been MIA a while, and his last posts were talking about selling the project off, so who knows where he or it is now.

One thing I distinctly remember about Corpses build was he built the spacer out of PVC pipe so that he could run a ring of neon type light around it to light up his gauges, I don't remeber it being for any other purpose than that though. He used to have a cardomain site too, maybe he still has pics or info up there.

I was lazy and used the year one cluster. Put in Autometer Sportcomp II's. It's easy and saves you a lot of time. Painted it my interior black so it matched. Free's up my A-pillar for my wideband and EGT's or shift light. Since I could put the 4 smaller guages there. I do wish they would make more dual guages in the smaller size for the fuel and water temp. I also have the hood turn signals so didn't put them in. Added a blue light for highbeams.

I seem to remember he made a point about wanting to see the full face of the gauges (he said something like "I paid for the whole thing, I wanna be able to see the whole thing"... very Corpse like comment) which is why he did the spacers. But hell, it's been so long since he did that conversion I've surely forgotten more than I remember about it.

BTW...

corpse's picture I can't see...

its a got a red X

Shouldn't be... here's a direct link if you'd rather: http://img222.imageshack.us/img222/852/corpseguagecluster.jpg

Now that you mention it, I remember a thread on the VMF wayyy back about this. The neons is what made me remember it. The guy on VMF went by the handle Zieroh. Below is his thread but I don't think the pics work any more.

Found some by Corpse but site is blocked at work, so no guarantees: http://www.stangnet.com/mustang-forums/537305-changing-out-guages.html

Edit: The one Zieroh did I think was using factory gauges but added the glow wire around the perimeter to increase lighting. I got mixed up apparently.

I just decided to snoop at Stangnet while I was there and found a thread where he goes back and recaps but all the pics are gone there too. I think it was like in 03' or something and got lost with the big board wipe the had.

Gotcha. The first stangnet link I posted was from a VMF thread back in 2002 that linked to Stangnet. They've likely restructured their link format since that VMF thread, which is likely why it isn't working.

Last night I couldn't find corpse's pics or article. I did come across pics on my home pc of another conversion that was done on a standard camera case finish bezel and I know I have the article the pics are from printed out somewhere but couldn't locate it. After searching online during lunch it appears to be Kevin Vinkler's conversion. Here's the page, http://classic-web.archive.org/web/20091026223135/geocities.com/kvinkler/gauges/page_01.htm

I also came across this page.
