LindenBruce 27 Report post Posted January 6, 2011 Check out this link for further details. On an FE it will be on the right side, passenger side, of the block toward the front. Then look up that number on the net to get further info. FE's are very difficult to positively identify by casting numbers alone. Most times the only way to make a positive ID is by measuring bore and stroke. maxum96 32 Report post Posted January 7, 2011 But if it's a side oiler, as I think the OP is indicating, there will be the full length bump for the oil passage on the left side and cross bolted mains.
Fordrevhead 29 Report post Posted January 7, 2011 Look above the starter motor for block # small blocks are there, FE's are forward same size by frost plug. This will only tell you the year and possibly the vehicle(s) it came in. Crank casting number is more definitive.
428 Cobra Jet 10 Report post Posted January 7, 2011 Guy's I am after the engine / vin number, I have the Block ID info. It is a 68 so I am told that 68 year and up have a engine/vin number stamped on the block, but where.
LindenBruce 27 Report post Posted January 7, 2011 Oh sorry. It is on the back of the block just below the deck where the cylinder head bolts on. You will see a rectangular pad and this is where Ford stamped the vins, if at all. Bruce
LSG 15 Report post Posted January 9, 2011 428, keep in mind that here in the USA, you couldn't get a 427 in the mustang from the factory. Lots of them were dealer installed, and even more were owner installed. I don't know what engine availability was in Australia, sometimes you guys had neat options that we didn't get in the States. Sounds like a nice car...right hand drive ? LSG
428 Cobra Jet 10 Report post Posted January 13, 2011 LSG, the motor is not original, it is a 68, 427 s/o, hyd camed block, with 428 crank & rods, Ross pistons, crower cam, 4 x 48 IDA webers, Bla Bla. Anyway its a nice car with a nice motor combo. oh the car is LHD and driven 2-3 days a week, no trailer queen.
