The Bitch is Back!

Recommended Posts

They are a Craigslist find off a 2010 Mustang GT. The cat selling them lives about a half mile from me and replaced them because he races his car at Willow Springs. Oh, and he's 75!

I was thinking about buying a spare or two and found a seller on eBay who had them for $85 each, if you're interested.

Attached to my m.i.a. quarter windows are their lower hinges. Nice. Apparently these aren't repoped. A quick call to Paul, my new bff at Mustang MD in Castaic, Ca procured me a used set. You won't get yard sale prices from Paul,  but he's a great guy who's honest and knowledgeable.

One of the hinges had the plastic sleeve missing in which the hinge rod rotates and stays snug. If a plastic straw was made from thicker material it would work and be formed to the rod. I cut a piece from a milk jug, slid it into an aluminum rod I bored to proper i.d., inserted a rod to keep the inner shape,  then heated the entire contraption with a torch for the plastic to take shape,  then cooled it.

I wish finding my missing quarter windows was this easy. I'll be selling a set of these for $25 to recoup my losses. I'll beak even when I sell 12 sets :)

Havnt checked the for sale section in quite a while

Heck Jim ,  I just figured everybody clicked the Unread Contents tab on each visit here.

No worries mate. By chance do you have the driver's side channel that screws to the door and window opening and to which the roof side rail molding is glued to? Somehow the back half of mine is gone.

Thanks Jim.  I believe fastback pieces are different, but hopefully close enough to work. My good right side is 77", can you please measure the coupe mldg for me? The drivers side is just 55", with the back 22" missing. The dog leg vertical end of the molding at the rear is ~8-1/2".

The moldings are different, and neither are repopped yet. The coupe will work but has to be notched out for the top of the quart window bracket, so I've read.

I have seen some fastback moldings on flea bay, but beware of sticker shock

Installing the rear bumper would've been a lot easier if I'd have left some type of  access to the bracket to body bolts. OY! Had to cut access holes into the trunk enclosure floor.

You certainly can't fit a hand,  wrench and bolt in there to bolt up the bumper. Ya big dummy!

The 69 Mach 1 was in good enough condition to drive it to Florida and back,  so drive it I did.  Drove a total of 4,837 trouble free miles and 500 ft of not so good.  She averaged 16.77 mpg, ranging from 13.5 to 21 per fill up. After leaving California I went thru Nevada,  Utah, Colorado, New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Arkansas and into Florida. She ran and handled great the entire way, even over Monarch Pass in Colorado at 11,000 plus feet. The suspension worked great, not too firm nor soft.

Driving home just East of West Monroe  LA, the right front outer wheel bearing experienced catastrophic failure without prior vibration,  shimmy or any warning.  I was fortunate enough to get the Mustang out of the traffic lanes, and the bearing was the only real damage. The inner wheel lip contacted the upper control arm ball joint sleeve which caused cosmetic damage to the wheel.  And the rotor rubbed the bridge area of the caliper when the failed bearing allowed the hub to wobble.

The tow truck company manager, their driver and the Napa counter guy went completely overboard helping me get back on the road. Gotta love Southern hospitality. 20171004_193512.thumb.jpg.efb306b1b5192ea1dacbada7c518934e.jpg 20171007_083635.thumb.jpg.37b3a1d8859e43d272d43db05733f8bb.jpg20171007_113759.thumb.jpg.330d22d865626649a50cd043a9ca4d11.jpg20171007_115512.thumb.jpg.4793588c8aef529c4d7c425654369560.jpg20171007_115545.thumb.jpg.51ec16b1e92eb466653d53e0923e03c7.jpg20171010_164552.thumb.jpg.5c3cdeb62d4d3491645d326a24c821c3.jpg

As this was my first real trip in the 69, I was pretty shocked at the number of folks from all walks of life and ages who commented on the Mustang.  You guys are probably used to to attention the cars gather but I'm still telling friends and relatives about it. It was a heck of a trip, so glad I made it.

Do it Sparky, I shoulda done it sooner. The drive was much easier than I expected.

Thanks Jim. And don't I know it could've been much worse, and how fortunate I was to only end up with mechanical parts damage. Oh,  btw Jim, you have some serious competition for the most helpful guy award. Just saying :)

Alone in my car Phil, but picked up cars in Montrose CO and OKC. I went to the Mustang Steve Bash in Ft Walton Beach. Oh, I was on edge the first 1k miles,  then pretty anxious after the wheel bearing failed.
