rack and pinion convertion "can i do it on a budget'

i have a rack from a lincoln mark viii same as a t-bird from the 90's.. anyway this rack looks like if i made a crossmember to hold it i could use it in my car.. has anyone tried to make there own rack and pinion convertion and if so what did you or they use..

I'm not aware of anyone using a Mark/Tbird rack, but the Taurus rack was one of the earliest ones used and is what many of the aftermarket racks are based off of.

i saw in a magazine an advertisement for a rack n pin set up and it stated that they used an 99-04 escort (don't quote me on the year but in that time frame). The only issue i would want to address is the escort is a lighter car than the older 69 mustangs. I have also heard of people using a chevy beretta... I think that these racks are fat and you may have clearance issues or header heat problems.

hmm, i'll look into using what i have. if it dont work i'll just buy a new steering box.. lol
