69 mach 408w build

Recommended Posts

i would say this will be the last post....

interior is finished.  i had to make my own carpet.  so that involved sectioning areas around the tunnel and sewing it back up.

i probably have around 250 miles on it as of now.  i'm blown away, but it's actually easier to drive than the mustang....i was certain it would have been the other way around....

video was the second startup.  was cold outside that day....

That came out great @BuckeyeDemon, I bet it's a blast to drive.  I went to an annual show earlier this month and saw this car and thought of yours.  Hope you don't mind me posting some pictures of it on your thread.  If you don't want me to just let me know and I'll remove them.

thank you.

i really like the 63 hardtop body.  i thought the roof looked peculiar when i first saw the pictures (same exact roof as mine) and noticed that the description indicates heavy mods.  what a lot of work.  very neat description of what they did.  always love black too.

Well I certainly hope it's not your last post. What an outstanding job you do. With the different suspension, how does the Falcon ride compared to the 69 Mach 1?

You live in a gorgeous part of the country. With a couple of good customers you could make some serious cash building top shelf cars. The talent here on this forum is astonishing. And by the way, you look nothing like what I imagined. I figured you were a hard ass looking special forces kind of guy. Not that what I saw was a bad thing. Kudos brother.

thank you.  i always thought of myself as a bad ass 6'2", 165 lb biker dude (well bicycler anyways....lol).

the falcon steers easier, brakes better, shifts easier and has an easier clutch than the mustang.  the falcon rides flat around the corners, but i don't think that means it handles the corners better.  i'm pretty certain if i pushed the falcon at all around the corners that it would be in the ditch.   it has no front sway bar and has a rear four link that is inherently in bind on roll or a single side bump.  but, i really don't have any interest in finding the limits on the corners of these cars on the street.   i will say the mustangs leaf springs with a detroit locker give an interesting feel when in and out of the throttle.  great for giving people rides.  the falcon rear end is extremely well behaved.  i'm sure the 4-link/panhard is the primary reason.  maybe the helical differential helps too.

the falcon seats are considerably different as compared to the mach 1 seats.

the clutch in the falcon (Ram Force 10.5" dual sintered iron disc) is slipping bad.  and that is with the throttle heavily limited (probably limited to flow about 60%).  Mccleod just finished balancing an RXT1200 assembly and should be here in a few days. i hope that resolves that issue and i can get at least a hit or two at the dragstrip this fall.

My gosh, the Falcon is beautiful too! You don't do anything half-A, man. You still have the Mach?

thank you. i do still have the mustang.  it's still my baby :)  the 69 mustang just looks so good from any angle.

I totally agree! In fact, I personally think it's the best looking body style ever produced by any of the big three.

the replacement clutch setup that went in last year is operating and holding well now.  i know i'm shifting at 7800+.  i also have the throttle adjusted so it's opening all the way.  just trying to find the right time in the next few weeks to get it to the track.  except for some shock adjustments and removing the tool kit from the back seat, i will track it just as the car is setup for the street.

I was able to get to the track for a test and tune night for its first three passes.

The launch limiter was set at 3500rpm initially thinking that was conservative, but it was blowing the tires off in the first two gears on those two passes.  The car was 100% as I drive it on the street (even tire pressure and shock settings).  On the third pass i just took off easy.

Ran almost 135mph on the second pass and 136 mph on the third pass.

I have everything to be legal to faster than 9.99 and 135 except the paper work for roll cage cert and the competition license.
