LED Headlights

Recommended Posts

I have seen these before but never on a car. Led bulbs can be very bright but the light usually wont shine very far. plus they're directional. In this case, the lens looks like it would do a good job in reflecting the light, but i'd be curious as to how far down the road? But theres a reason why LED's arent used on new luxury cars...

You made me curious, so I did some googling. I linked some articles below. It looks like they might become pretty mainstream, Toyota Prius for example. I'd wait for the price to come down as they become more common, though.

Talks about adoption of LED headlight tech:

LED bulbs are much more efficient and run a lot cooler than halogen or HID bulbs. They dont use glass so they are pretty durable and wont brake easy. Plus, some can last up to 100,000 hours! Ive got led tail lights and i will never have to worry about getting pulled over for a shot brake light.

When I first saw these I thought it would be trick enough to add some wow factor to my car?

Well, I bet the light is a really pure, brilliant white. The Audi article says a lot of the appeal is the ability to customize the shape and look. I bet they start getting really tricked out before too long. Maybe not a great look on a classic but watch for the ricer crowd to go for them after they see them on a Lexus or a BMW or an Audi.

A plain vanilla one like the NAPA one you linked would be fine on a '69 but a little too pricey for me (I did the relay mod)
