yamahasrx700 14 Report post Posted September 15, 2009 I got a radio from a 80-84 Ford EXP(I think). With very little modification to the radio mounting plate on my 69 mustang. It looks factory with the period correct knobs. The only problem is the radio has no part number or date code so I cant find a schematic. Can anyone help me. It looks like Ford changed the colors between several years. I have the power and ground and the radio works but as far as the speakers go, I cant find the correct combination. Pakrat 1,043 Report post Posted September 15, 2009 Without knowing any kind of codes or the exact model it will probably be near impossible to find an exact schematic, however a lot of radios do share common wiring color codes that may help you narrow down the options, for example, the ground is usually black and the power is usually green as you probably already discovered so often a brown wire goes with a yellow (often for the left), a light blue goes with a dark blue (often right) a purple and pink for the rear, red to the antenna etc... and sometimes one is silver and the other copper, they can be all silver too but when not they pair. I might have a further break down of some of the common combos at home, I'll take a look tonight, Can you tell us how many wires you have and the colors they are? EDIT: I just found this on a quick google search, don't know if it will help or not: http://www.installdr.com/Harnesses/Ford-Wiring.pdf

69RavenConv 286 Report post Posted September 16, 2009 The EXP was just a "sporty" variation of the Escort. You should be able to find shop manuals for the early Escorts, they sold a bazillion of them. Ironically, the first new car I ever bought was a 1982 EXP with AM/FM cassette and if I knew the radio would fit my '69 I would have saved it before I got rid of the car....matter of fact, I had a Chilton's manual for it, I'll see if I can find it and if I can, I'll see if it's got wiring diagrams....
