Correct Paint for Cowl Lip on Firewall?

Recommended Posts

Car is pretty close to being painted. Redid engine bay and painter and I were trying to determine what color lip of cowl (sits on firewall where spot welds go) and the brackets that attached cowl to side walls was from factory for 69/70. He thought they should be body color instead of satin black of the engine bay with seam sealer put on lip before painting. Although I don't plan on entering any shows that this should matter - we'd thought we might as well get it close to original. Pics would be helpful if you got them. thanks

Pakrat gives you a good reference - and I just went through this with a Concourse guy -

When the PO had the car repainted and didn't repaint that lip the color of the car - the correct paint scheme - it looked like hell after a bunch of years.

I just finished cleaning and repainting the engine bay area - and the firewall is black up to the lip where the export brace is bolted down.

I had my paint experts repaint the lip the color of the car (with some new leveling seam sealer first) Makes a big difference when its done right. Be sure to put in some new black hole gaskets
