Installing a 460

I want to go big block in my coupe. Are there web sites showing how to install a 460 into a 'Stang?

 

Has anyone done this before? Is it cheap? Going with manual brakes/steering with an auto trans. Getting the 460 out of a Lincoln.

check with crites restorations for parts and i think they may even have a manual.

The 460 will go in but it is longer than an FE & will be tight on the sides like an FE.

Here's a pic of a 460 Ford racing crate engine in a 70 FB. It was a tight fit but would go in without any body mods. However, the owner did notch the shock towers to have better access to the 2,3 and 6,7 plugs.

A 460 is the same block as a 429, so it was done from the factory in a the Boss 429.

 

Why not go with an FE ? plenty of options there and probably easier to get parts for. more correct too if that matters to you.

But Ford moved the shock towers out so it would fit. With the huge heads.

I didn't think they were any wider overall than a FE ? if that's the case then I'd definetly go with an FE myself.

the 429/460 is wider than an FE but not a whole bunch, maybe an inch or so wider. it's actually a bunch easier to put a 429/460 in a 67-up car than it is to put a 351 cleveland in a 65-66

You can make more power cheaper if you use a 429-460. Parts are more available than 428. Just use one piece export brace and monte carlo bar to keep the towers from sagging from the weight.

Buy this http://www.fordracingparts.com/parts/part_details.asp?PartKeyField=2599 and have one bad ass engine. Light weight but strong. There's a 521cid kit for this with EFi making 625/600 around 5500.

now that's what I'm talkin about.... :biggrin: ... i helped a buddy install a new harmonic balancer on a built 460 in his 89 fox body convertible this weekend... nice motors.. amazing torque ..

so how are you going to get that 69' stang to hook up in the rear?:scared:
