Flex Fuel Upgrade

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know if there is a kit to convert any 60's Mustang or other classics to a flex fuel car that can run gas and E-85 or as much as E-100 ethanol ? If so, who is the company that sells it and what's involved ?

there are several companies that sell e-85 and alcohol carbs and most replacement fuel pumps "should" be compatible with e-85 or you may have to use an clky pump as well, other that that all you really need to worry about is replacing the flexible rubber fuel lines with e-85 capable hose and possibly sealing the gas tank and maybe running SS hard lines. but there are no conversion kits out to my knowledge at the moment

i'm planning on building the cougar up to run either E85 or propane as well as regular gasoline. at the moment i'm thinking about doing propane injection with the injectors on the bottom side of the intake, kind of like a hidden nitrous setup, and using a holley pro-jection on top for the gas or E-85.

the engine will be my dream enigine i've always wanted to build, a roller cam, aluminum head, long rod, fuel injected 351w with around 10.25:1 or so compression. with the long rod and modern efficient combustion chamber of the heads combined with fuel injection i should still be able to run reguar fuel with no worries about detonation or pre-ignition. i also plan to use as many internal engine coatings as possible, like piston skirt coatings, thermal barrier coatings on the piston and cylinder head combustion surfaces, oil shedding coatings on the crank and rods with oil retaining coatings on the bearing surfaces and ceramic coatings on the bottom and inside of the intake manifold and exhaust manifolds or headers.

even with all the mods i still want the engine to look basically stock as long as the air cleaner is on. even with it off it won't look too far from stock except for the holley pro-jection throttle body.in the end i'm looking to get around 375-400hp from the engine and still be able to pull down close to 30mpg on the highway. i think it's doable with the right combination of parts.

this is the main one here

http://techlinecoatings.com/application_guide.htm

and this is the other one.

http://polydyn.com/performance_coatings.htm

i think Eastwood sells a few coatings as well so you may try looking on their site too.

it's fairly inexpensive if you do the coatings yourself. i've never used these coatings before but i have used some of Polydyn's other products in the past
