EastYorkStang 63 Report post Posted July 7, 2008 Can high oil pressure be bad? I drove my car on the weekend and noticed the oil pressure gauge go right to the top past the H mark. The factory gauge usually sits at the 3/4 mark.

S code 69 13 Report post Posted July 7, 2008 If your oil pressure went up either you have a pluged filter which then your bypass will relieve it at a higher pressure, or your gauge is faulty. extreme high oil pressure can cause bearing damage and waste power. but an engine can't just gain oil pressure, you have something going on but it shouldn't be anything serious. Boogerschnot 12 Report post Posted July 8, 2008 Hmm... I would guess that its the guage or sending unit before anything.. You could check the actual pressure with a mechanical guage..

daley driver 10 Report post Posted July 12, 2008 Could be a bad sending unit,or the sending wire has shorted to ground. As far as the filter goes, the pressure is read after the filter so it would not indicate a clogged filter in this case.

6T9Mach1 12 Report post Posted July 12, 2008 You should probably check your oil pressure with a mechanical gauge to verify your true oil pressure. As was mentioned overly high oil pressure can damage your bearings and waste power. It is most likely an issue with the gauge or sending unit but it is best to check it out in case it is something more serious.
