Contemplating a tattoo, talk me in to or out of it.

The title says it all. Basically out of our core group of (usual suspects been hanging out for decades) friends, myself and one other had virgin skin, this includes our spouses and significant others BTW. Well it looks like as of this weekend I am now the last one in the group and taking some razzing about it, certainly not a reason to do it as I am still the best looking one and own the coolest car :whistling: but I have thought about doing it for many many years any way.

So the question becomes if I do than what do I get. I am pretty set on the idea of something Mustang, I used to think a tribar and running horse would be fine but it seems this is pretty ordinary and worn by many so now I am thinking maybe custom and thus more complicated.

I'm swirling around the idea of a horse head with flaring nostrils kinda like the cover of the CJ Pony catalog, chrome or steal looking, maybe even having the mane be flames or a checkered flag instead of hair and/or blended in with a barbwire arm band or something. Maybe even making the barbwire kinda look like little 6's and 9's.

Maybe even a more simple B&W version of the above but do the horse as a tribal outline of the shape with a tribal armband. I don't know, I've got lots of photshopping to fool around with obviously to come up with something cool but I am totally open to any ideas or artwork anyone wants to submit.

One other completely different idea I had too was a horse head straight on with either the crossed pistons or wrenches like a skull and crossbones, maybe even have the horse head be a skull.

Find an artist who's work you like and be willing to give a deposit for him/her to sketch a design. Reason being is it's easier for an artist to interpret your idea through their drawing skills than to retrace something. It will come out much nicer/custom and will have the artist put more passion into it. The freehand tattoos I have is much more a piece of art than a redrawn sketch.

Don't do it. There are all kind of repercussions medically that could cause problems. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p></o:p>

Now that the adult in me has spoken, I’m thinking of getting one myself. What I was considering was a small pair of horseshoes on my upper buttocks. You know, like in “Kick Azzâ€. I have some Air Force buddies who were PJ’s in the <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" /><st1:country-region w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Viet Nam</st1:place></st1:country-region> era and have Jolly Green Giant footprints tattooed on theirs. Ain’t nothing like going to a bar and having a few beers and watching them show the girls their tats for free drinks. (LOL) <o:p></o:p>

May be the best to ask people that has had their tats for a long time (15 years up) if they would do it again if they had it to do over. I have asked a lot of people and almost all of them said no. Some are pretty well masters at covering them up. That said, it is your call. MrD2

IMO Tats are plain ugly and stupid. Makes men look like fools and women like Ho's. I for one am very happy I never fell for the buddy pressure to get one. Now all the buddies hate them and wish they had not done it is the 1st place.

Only my opinion but they will cost you a job if you are looking in corporate America and it can be seen. Shame on me maybe but I did not hire a guy once because I could see his bulldog USMC tat through his white button down. My theory was if he can't take the time to wear a tee shirt under the shirt to hide it, then he lacks "polish" and attention to detail.

I've passed up 2nd dates with chicks who had tats. girls with tats = chicks or worse....

Also, who wants to be 60 with a flabby "I love mom" tat on their arm?

Again only one persons opinion...... At the end of the day it's your body so do what you will and don't look back. Regrets suck....

Lol, that's pretty funny right there. But don't all those peanuts up your ass make it tuff to walk after a while?

69Restorod: Well, I did go to the Rhode Island School of Design so I don't trace and am probably up to the task but most tattoo artists are in fact artists as well and usually they like to do their own interpretation of what you want anyway. If that's the case then I would rather hand them my art to get the idea across then try to explain what's in my head like I am talking to a police skecth artist.

As for any Don't do it's, I haven't decided one way or the other yet. If I come up with something cool enough I will, if not then I won't. It's not like I am putting it on my forehead or anything, it would probably be on my upper left arm and hidden or seen at my choosing. My wife has two and the look doesn't bother me one way or the other. The rose and vine on her hip/buttock is rarely seen and the flower on her arm covers a hideous botched vaccination scar that looks like she was burned by a cigar the size of a quarter so it is much more pleasing to look at. If that makes her a ho then so be it, she's still my ho and I don't love her any less for it.

Everyone has their personal preference but I'm not the type to judge someone when their feelings are opposed to mine. There are alot of folks that don't get our hobby and many folks (my parents included)think me a fool because I'm spending all my insurance money to rebuild my car, they just don't get it. I hate to believe that in this day and age of tolerance and acceptance that someone would still overlook my abilities, personality and acheivements in life because of a personal decision I make that hurts or effects no one else but me. That's as bad as holding religion, sex or race againt someone, a very outdated mind set. I have to say Coz that I am pretty shocked that you think that way. You'd never work for me with that attitude, lol, j/k.

Pak I hear ya and if I worked as a construction foreman I would not have a problem hiring him. But I work for a top 5 investment company and his "look" does not fit our image. Just like some companies don't allow long hair or beards. Might suck but image is reality. Also, not following your "in this day of tolerance" claim. In my experience, intolerance is in vogue these days. Not so much because of intolerant attitudes, but because of the flippant and obnoxious ways people flaunt their "special" thing.

Case in point, I have no problems with gay people but don't swing the hips, flip the wrist, sashay (sp) about with this "look at me attitude" and expect me to be ok with it. Since gays are such a powder keg issue heres' another example. I work out a fair amount and can move some rightious weight for my size but I don't stand in front of a public mirror and flex it up in front of everyone. I can walk by a store front without glancing at my profile and I don't feel the need to wear a wife beater shirt in the winter so everyone can see my pythons.

So my point is do what you like but don't expect others to like or agree with it. A tat on an arm or hip or where ever is ok, Mike Tyson or Winehouses tats - WTF???? The problem with tats, gays, body builders, etc... are the ones that take it so overboard they ruin it for others. Unfortunately, I am as human as the next person and hold pre-determined feelings toward certain groups or looks.

So what do you think of the lower back tats on women? Do you know they were first found on prostitutes so they could further "entertain" their clients while in the doggie position. Now knowing that would you want your wife or daughter to get one?

And contrary to what I wrote I do not think you wife is a Ho. I think instead when I see a tat on a woman I sub-consciously wonder what she was thinking since I personally find them to be a distraction to the beauty of a woman.

Now I can appreciate some of the tat designs I've seen - some real artists...

Oh I get your points and where you are coming from and I'm not trying to argue your views, I was just surprised is all. I think rarely do people with the wrong "image" even enter the wrong world, don't see too many Bank Presidents for example with pony tails and a pireced tongue just like you don't see too many 3 pieced suits on a hog. But let me ask this, do you ever get on your car in public? Maybe rev the exhaust or god forbid even lay down a patch of rubber? If so is that not flaunting your special thing in a flippant way? Surely there are just as many folks who think or say, "look at that obnoxious asshole" as there are that say "whoa, that was sweet dude". Does a bigger is better more horse power arrrrgh arrrrgh person normally fit into the top five investment company scheme of things or are you more an exception? What if you didn't get the job or promotion because of how you chose to spend your money on the car instead of investing it a different way? Would your view change even slightly as a victim or would you say "good, I don't deserve to get ahead until I conform"?

Maybe prostitutes started the back tat craze but that doesn't make everyone with one a hooker. I absolutely hate earings on a guy but when I see one I don't say "hey look, it's a pirate'. A cover is just a small insignificant part of the book, true you may never know the wonders inside if you judge by that but in the end it becomes your loss. I don't get the grunge thing or the Marilyn Manson makeup look and sure when I see them I snicker but that is the overboard thing like you described with tats on the face, I think like everything in life the key is moderation. Even being a car guy I don't love all cars even all Mustangs like in our ugly car thread, some people go overboard but they don't become the stick at which I judge all cars now and ruin the hobby for me, they just make me shake my head and appreciate the tasteful ones even more.

I think any reasonable person would agree that this world would suck if we were all the same but sometimes getting classified is even worse. Having a beer does not make you an alcoholic and smoking an occasional joint does not make you a drug addict, heck even holding a degree does not make you smart.
