Which 1969 Mach1 Front Seat Back Panel?

Recommended Posts

Hi guys, about to get my 69 Mach1 upholstery re done with Distinctive  maroon/dark red. There is no front hi-back seat rear panels in the full upholstery set  when bought a long time ago.

Options appear to be  TMI colored plastic panel with imitation stitching or Distinctive's upholstered cardboard type panel. The Mach came with the upholstered panel in bad condition but I'm told it is off a Cougar and it should be a plain plastic painted one (such as TMI without any imitation stitching). Appreciate your comment.

I wish I could help but I have the standard interior low back seats with headrests.  I do have Dark Red though and just wanted to say I love the color.  Mine were done with TMI upholstery with the additional bolstering and I added one of the full length center consoles.  I have the imitation stitching on the back panels and it looks good.  I don't know if you're going for what looks best or originality but I'd say it looks good.

My instagram has pictures and video but it does not do it justice on how well it came out.  No pictures of that panel.  I could send you one,

If you need an original style dark red 2 spoke steering wheel I also have one of those for sale.  It's a repro with no cracks in the handle.  I don't have the horn ring though. I notice you're in AUS.  If you wanted it I could collect the parts you need and send it all as one order.

Thanks for your replies everyone, very appreciated. It turns out every supplier in Australia has only stitched versions and yet to find a US without.

Sometimes people get very pedantic, but the other side is Ford also did anything as well!  I've also got to keep in context it will never be a concours car but I'm trying to do it as it was made within my budget (shot) and not going to the extent of oiling and bare metal. Interesting when a friend said it had to have red oxide underneath to be correct. There was none and almost no shutz / deadner either. Great pics TexasEd and appreciate your offer. I've got a poor condition 3-spoke and about to send it across to Rimblow Restorations in NZ.  Good to get your comments from owners Brian Conway and ThePose too.  Once again thanks - its what makes a forum so good. Cheers

My Mach1 has an upholstered panel with molded in stitching. I have been told this was cougar only as well. Not sure I believe this but I was not there when the car was built.
