Repop Export Braces...thin or thick?

Recommended Posts

Sherman, Classic Industries, Scott Drake all seem to be advertising new repop Export Braces.

Anyone have experience with these new ones compared to the old originals?????   Thinner? same?

I have an original but when I compared it to the repops of ten or so years ago, it seemed twice as thick as those offered as replacements.........

I DO KNOW that running my 68 XR7 with one of these has saved my rear shock tower panels a couple of times!!!!    .....not to mention stiffening up the front suspension.

I'd like to get a couple more for my cars......but not gonna buy lesser than originals.....  For the money, my brain thinks that these are thin......  Help me figure this out.

Thanks!
Steve

I got mine through MustangsPlus years ago when they were still in the biz, NPD is your best bet, you would probably get more accurate answer from him if you reach out to him in Vintage Mustang Forums or just call NPD, his name is Rick, username is 69bossnine

All,    Thanks for the input!   Yes, thicker was the idea....but no way to tell on any of the sales sites I've seen.....  Only "as original.."    Yah right.

Brian, That sounds like the thickness I was thinking.   I saw the end of my brace sticking out of the parts pile recently.....perhaps tomorrow will throw a mic' on it real quick and see! Would be nice!!!

I just jumped over to NPD....ugh!    No less than 9 examples "that fit" ...... $50 to $1112......early, late, premium early....premium late, chrome, black, satin chrome.....

Would the real C5ZZ version please stand up!!!    Looks like the same C5ZZ-E is referenced in most of the descriptions.....but if I got it correct, the delta is the spacing of the firewall bolt pattern.   "Early" has evenly spaced holes, for 65-66?   and the Late Premium is the thicker material (better definition grooves etc) and the unevenly spaced firewall bolt holes, two sets of two holes separated from each other by a couple of inches.

Looks good so far!   Just didn't expect such a variety!   Oh, and the $1112 is for a Boss 9!  Shoulda guessed that!!

Stay tuned!   Thanks again!
Steve
