Chuck Leslie 0 Report post Posted September 17, 2024 question? I have a 70 Much. Has anyone replaced the steering rag joint with a U joint? Does it work? Seems to me that the steering column shaft may wobble because there really isn’t a shaft bearing at the bottom of the column.
RPM 1,269 Report post Posted September 17, 2024 The solid mount at the rag joint keeps the shaft secure and from wobbling. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. If it is broke, replace the rag joint with another one. And welcome to the forum. 2 69RavenConv and Brian Conway reacted to this
Ridge Runner 1,202 Report post Posted September 17, 2024 The wrag joint keeps a bit of the jarring out from today's roads . Make sure the two big pins are deep enough into the opposite side of the joint ,this makes you able to steer if somthing happens to the rubber part of the joint 2 RPM and Mach1 Driver reacted to this
smh00n 92 Report post Posted January 5 I had the same concern, and when I did my Borgeson conversion, I added a roller bearing to the bottom of the column. Had to machine a sleeve to loacate it as the OD's didn't match. Then just used the original rag joint.
