Alternator overcharge Circuit Protection

Hello Fellow Mustang Enthusiast I'm new and hope to keep my 9 Alive. Finally assembled and ready to start.

How can I protect my car from an overcharge situation.

My alternator pigtail ground was pretty fried and so was the ground wire for the alternator at the body bolt under the regulator. I've fixed all the wires. The fusible link seems fine. I found the bad wires after a crank no start situation. Turns out it was the 3 wire connector to the coil. The temp and oil sending wires were good, but the red coil wire was frayed inside the loom cover.

Anyone know where to get a replacement pigtail for the body harness to alternator? A flat 3 wire for trailers is close, but the wire is too light for alternator use.

NPD sells Alloy Metal Products harnesses which are just like the original. BTW, fusiible links weren't used until 1970.

I've seen a fusible link on a 1969 headlight harness, but that seems to be a rare exception.

Does that mean we should replace or upgrade with a '70 harness if we are cruising around in our '69's? 

I am more cognizant of the fire risks these days,.....

What I remember as a "recent" restoration of my convertible is now actually 30 plus year old electrical components and other parts in a 53 year old car.

Time flies when your having fun.

No, the 70s have several changes to wiring. Midlife would know all of them, but perhaps most notable is that the 70s only had two headlights, the ignition switch was moved to the column, the turn signals and side markers had an odd flashing arrangement, and a fuse link was added at the starter solenoid for the main harness I believe.
