san408 18 Report post Posted June 7, 2022 I have stock type front disc/rear drum manual brakes. I'm not interested in moving to power brakes. What master cylinder should I be looking for? I was looking at one from a Ford Ranger because it had an aluminum body, but it's turned out to be hard to find.

I really want to put a new part on. I'm assuming that since the car has disks on the front, it should have to larger reservoir at the back. The one currently on the car has the same size reservoir front and rear.
RPM 1,157 Report post Posted June 7, 2022 My best guess is I have a Dorman aluminum master cylinder for a ~1993 Ranger with a flat plastic tank for a 2001 Mustang V6.
RogerC 129 Report post Posted June 7, 2022 Some options from CJPP. They have more also. https://www.cjponyparts.com/master-power-dual-bowl-master-cylinder-for-manual-disc-disc-or-disc-drum-brakes-1965-1973/p/BMC23/ https://www.cjponyparts.com/cj-classics-master-cylinder-with-proportioning-valve-disc-drum-1965-1973/p/BMC76/ https://www.cjponyparts.com/cj-classics-master-cylinder-with-adjustable-proportioning-valve-disc-drum-1965-1973/p/BMC78/ I'm sure NPD and other mustang parts vendors have the same. I'm sure autozone, advanced auto etc. have replacements but might have to order.
maxum96 31 Report post Posted June 8, 2022 I just bought this a few months ago. Aluminum body, 15/16" bore with SAE ports. I had to buy 2 adapters from the auto parts store to connect to my brake lines. https://www.autozone.com/brakes-and-traction-control/master-cylinder-brake-system/p/duralast-new-brake-master-cylinder-nm2203/140290_0_0
Vicfreg 685 Report post Posted July 5, 2022 I also used the Ford Ranger/Explorer Master Cylinder. The only mod was that the mounting holes had to be slightly enlarged. Can't remember which one, pick the one that has the brake line fitting holes facing out (toward the fender), not in, toward the engine. I used a Wilwood proportioning valve which has the pressure actuated brake light switch, and that gets rid of the brake pedal mounted one. You can see the master cylinder in the picture. I used a dual diaphragm power brake booster, which makes the use of a standard master cylinder a very tight fit to the shock tower. I did that to avoid header interference as I am running a C-6 auto.
