EastYorkStang 63 Report post Posted May 24, 2022 Drove my car last night for the first time in a while. Now that I've got a tach installed I found out my car runs like crap after about 3800 rpm. Ordered a new distributer #8578 so my shaker will clear. But I'm wondering if MSD boxes degrade with age ?
Mach1 Driver 560 Report post Posted May 24, 2022 Sure, everything under the sun degrades. Its electronic and susceptible to heat all sorts of things. I'm sure you'll hear people extolling the virtues and some cussing.
Shep69 149 Report post Posted May 27, 2022 My MSD box caused me lots of issues and it was pretty much brand new when i purchased my mustang . I was chasing a no spark intermittent issue. It would run OK on the most part but other times have no spark. Left me stranded once. I changed out the magnetic pickup and leads and the issue persisted. I checked the msd box using the paperclip method and found it was the box. I know most guys run the boxes under the hood but heat will kill them. MSD is not what it used to be . The leads are rubbish . I removed the whole system and replaced it with ICE ignition a couple of years ago and never looked back.
RPM 1,190 Report post Posted May 28, 2022 You do know that MSD stands for my spark disappeared, right? Although I've never had one, and many people love them. 2 Mach1 Driver and Midlife reacted to this
