copb8 97 Report post Posted August 29, 2021 I have a question. I'm cutting in new carpet and need your opinions on how I should cut the carpet up against the kick plates. Should I cut the carpet flush with the edge of the door opening or should I leave it a bit longer to fold over and tuck under the kick plates?
fvike 173 Report post Posted August 29, 2021 Do not cut it flush! Keep it long, and trim it next year if you can. Use a steamer to form the carpet. 2 SWPruett and RPM reacted to this

Rcodenewf 44 Report post Posted September 2, 2021 I'm doing that exact thing right now. I left it folded up over the pinch weld on this 70 convert while trial fitting the new sill plates and they will keep it down tight and secure. As above do not cut it short. Once the footwell portion settles down in place it will have to pull that extra from somewhere. Better have the extra under the sill IMO.....John
dmck 3 Report post Posted September 9, 2021 Whomever fitted my new carpet (prior to me buying the car) cut it short in some places and the kick plate didnt hold it. I overcame the problem by fitting thick foam as a carpet underlay (it "raised the floor level" so to speak). Also cut down a lot of road noise. Only putting this here to give you some ideas if things go wrong.
