  1. Well I just inherited a new project. I am now the proud owner of a 1996 Lincoln Mark VIII. My Mother-In-Law has had it since it was new. It's been parked for the last 5 years in her garage. It's in perfect shape. Looks like a beauty to ride in. Apparently the engines in these is similar to the 96 Cobra engines. From what I can find the differences are the crank and intake. It should be a fun car to play with. If anyone has had and experience with these please let me know what to expect !
  2. Nice looking ride !! I see ya have the cops watching ya already !!
  3. I haven't decided...polished or black.....hmmmm...
  4. Very nice !!! I think I like it and it probably helps a little with cooling. Thanks for the picture !!
  5. Under hood panel... Im thinking about getting one of these. Has anyone seen them in person ? Here's the link to the company that makes them...
  6. Well I have it all figured out and installed...for the most part. I just have to screw it in now, but it fits fairly well now and everything is working. The oil pressure gauge came with a hard plastic line that i changed to a copper line. I just don't trust those plastic lines. I will post a few pics when I get home tonight. The heater controls just miss the top of the pod. But I am happy with it. After all the work rebuilding this damn console it's nice to finally have it in and working !! Thanks to all who posted pics and gave advice. It is, as always, greatly appreciated !!:thumbup1: Cheers !!
  7. Yup....I too have been guilty of poor spelling and grammar. Especially after a few pops :whistling:. What really gets me is people who do it on purpose. I can't understand a damn thing my kids type when they text !
  8. Hey Buening, You are correct about the 1/2". Also, that's the way I have been 'test installing' the console. But the pod hits the heater control bezel just near the top of the pod. I still believe that is due to the carpet, underlay and sound/heat barrier that I have under the carpet. If I push down fairly hard on the front of the console I can manage to just slip it under. But that worries me for future cracks. I would rather shave it off a bit so there is no pressure on the plastic.
  9. Thanks all for your reply's. I finally got it almost to where I like it. I had to shave some off of the shifter bezel. It was hanging up on the shifter plate (See arrows in pic below). Also, the back of the gauge pod was pushing up against the heater bezel, so I shaved a bit off of the back of that as well. No matter what the parts, ya really have to be able to modify things when ya do a resto on these cars !!! I may shave a bit more off the back of the gauge pod so it slds a bit further under the heater controls.
  10. Well I haven't had any time to look at it anymore, hopefully tonight. But I think my problem may be with the carpet/underlay. I think that the extra thickness with the dynamat and the new carpet may be causing me some grief. On another issue with this, of the people who installed mechanical temp gauges, did you need to drill a new hole in the firewall or did you find a place to get through that already existed? I would hate to have to drill a new hole, but the connection for the gauge is rather large and I can't seem to see any other way of doing it.
  11. Ya I think 50K is a little much. I'll wait until 2013 to see how much they come down. There is always a knee-jerk reaction to a new model and the BOSS is a very anticipated model.
  12. I had an 05 V6. It was a great car, but I sold it after 2 years. Myself, I'm gonna wait for the BOSS to come back. That looks like a GREAT car !!! But Im not sure what the cost will be....
  13. LOL... I love it !!! DON'T call any old girlfriends when ya drink !!! NOTHING good will come from it !!
  14. I have been painting since I was 16, my preference is DuPont. They have mostly gone to water based paint now, however, if you don't have the proper equipment to spray water based paint they do have a line called NASON that you can use. My second preference would be Sikkens.
  15. The pod fits fine in the console, rather nice fit actually, but when I try to put the whole console back in it wants to sit on the shifter bezel...Thus making the guage pod sit too high. That why Im wondering if the insert I have is for a manual shifter. Because they don't have the bezel with the PRND12 on the tunnel.
  16. Good Day All, I am trying to install my console with the Shelby gauge pod where the ashtry used to be, but I seem to be missing something. It sits way too high. The problem seems to be the piece that sits on the shifter bezel. It seems to be too high. It's the only part that I replaced on the console, the rest is all original. Im wandering if they sent me the wrong part. What is the difference between a manual shift and auto shift ?? Im guessing that one is a bit higher than the other ??? Anyone know ? Im talking about the insert that has the seatbelt inserts and goes up and around the shifter. Thanks in advance for your help !!
  17. Me too ! I just installed an original 69 am/fm radio with an ipod/mp3 upgrade. I am going to run the wire under the console and make a dock inside the console compartment. But Im having a problem trying to figure out where to put the speakers. I like your idea of the 2 in the dash !! I'm gonna steal that idea !! As for the other 2, I might put the in the doors. I have deluxe panels so they would go in where the rug is.
  18. I have it over my 70 BOSS 302 that I sold to take my father to Hawaii back in 1982. I cry every time I think about it...THANKS for making me remember !!!!! sniffle sniffle
  19. Right On !! Another Canadian/BC'er !! Car is looking good !! Another resurrection !!
  20. The painting/spraying process is.... Seal,Basecoat,Clear.... Primer (Sand the primer to take out all scratches/imperfections. I finish sanding with 600 wet) Once happy with the finished surface then the car is blown down and completey washed. I use tumbler to wash the primer. Then go over the whole car with a tack cloth. Then the car is sprayed with a sealer. For mine I used a dark grey. This can also be LIGHTLY sanded if need be (ie any dirt or small dust in the sealer coat) Then the basecoat is sprayed. Usually 3 coats. again, you can lighly sand out inperfections between coats. Finally the clear is sprayed. I usually spray 4 coats (letting to tack dry between coats) because I know I will be wetsanding a coat off once cured. Also if there are any dies/pearls to be applied, this will be done in the first coat. Looking forward to seeing your car in that color !!! It should look sharp in the sun !!
  21. Nice !!! Looking forward to seeing it in that color:thumbup::thumbup1:
  22. It matches fairly well. I did finally find the SEM plastic texture spray. It took a little playing with to get it to where I was happy. I did a few practice pieces first so I knew what I had to do when I did the final parts. Then I used a satin black plastic paint to finish it all off. I bought 5 different brands and tested them all out before I found the one that was closest to the original. You have to take into account that these parts are over 40 years old. So over that time they have been bleached out by the sun and a whole whack of different cleaning products. So getting the 'exact' color match is pretty tough. But Im pretty happy with it. Way cheaper than buying a repo one or a good used one. It's carzy how much $$$$ they want for these things !!!
  23. Well, another Christmas has come and gone, now it's time to get back to work. I have the console pretty much done !! I am quit happy with how it came out. Considering buying a repo one costs a fortune, and I think it's always better to keep original pieces. I am also working on the radio now. I found a proper 69 radio so now Im gonna wire it for an MP3/iPod. Then run the wire under the console and make a doc inside the console compartment. Im thinking of using the old seat belt piece as a doc base...
