Update
So the last few days I've been working to get the front clip squared up. I didn't like the gaps from the fenders and hood or that the front clip just didn't look right. I'm glad I kept the original front end as that was very helpful along with the Mach 1 to get the measurements I needed.
Overall, I'm really happy with the fender/hood/cowl gaps. Even in this rough mockup, I like the results. I'm actually quite surprised how tight the gaps are.
The fender apron brackets were a pain. I even tried using an original one, but that fit worse than the new ones. The metal is noticeably thicker on the original versus the aftermarket bracket FYI. I don't know how that will affect strength, but there is a significant difference in metal thickness.
I ended up having to buy a second passenger side inner fender apron because the Canadian one I bought fit terribly (I didn't read the description on NPD's website, and it does mention the fit). So far they both seem to fit terribly, but the import brand (which is less money by the way) required less cutting away of material to get the measurements I needed. Neither of them hug the contours of the firewall precisely, but they will have to do for now.
I tried mocking up the new fenders I bought recently, but they were not cooperating. I tried installing the passenger side one on the Mach 1 too and it just didn't fit right. The original fenders just fit better. They don't fit the doors that well. I wonder if I should try installing the original doors now too and see how they go together.
The front bolt holes on the aftermarket fenders also do not line up with the core support at all. I don't like that. The original ones like up well enough. I'll try installing the new headlight buckets and see how those fit next.
The hood is just laying there, no hinges installed, but looks nice and straight
The front end is about 1/16th - 1/8" off from being perfectly square. I just can't get it closer than that. It'll have to do.

oof that sucks. i've been welding for years. i always wear a auto darkening hood, long sleeves, boots, jeans and gloves. Ive been burned plenty!

Nice update!
So I had a flash of inspiration the other day.
I unscrewed the firewall from the passenger side of the floor pan and used some ratchet straps to first pull the floorpan downward, then and used another 2 straps to get it positioned to where it looked right and level. I am happy to report that it is positioned really well now! I also fitted up the rear quarters, extensions and tail light panel. There are still gaps here and there but I think so far I have been really lucky with panel fitment. It would appear that aftermarket panels do fit well to each other. I have to take pics, but I also was able to fit the piece that goes between the back glass and the trunk. I used the original 69' for measurements and got it really spot on. Will post pics of that later.

So I figured out why I was getting an incorrect x2 measurement. Wrong hole! ... my wife hates it when that happens LOL.
The new floor is pretty much spot on according to those datum line measurements

Got the assembly table. Setting up the floor pan assembly according to this:

I bought a spot welder from harbor freight on sale this weekend too. I figure that it will save me a lot of time by not drilling out one side or the other of any particular panel to weld them together. Will also save time with grinding.... At least that's what I'm hoping.
The assembly table is perfectly level at all 4 corners. So excited to get this going. Gotta get a GoPro so I can put the build on youtube.

woohoo! Both my side assemblies came in yesterday! I am borrowing an assembly table from a friend and he is dropping it off tomorrow afternoon. Once i've got it set up i'll mount the floor pan to the table and determine the datum line and get crackin on this project!

Literally... i think the only good piece of metal on the car is the passenger side outer rocker. That's it.

Hey guys and gals. The time has finally come for me to put the 69 under the knife. I ordered a boat load of goodies from MTF and picked up my full floor pan from NPD (its great having them 10 miles from home).
I think i'll start a build thread but I had a question. I have completed building a rotisserie. The plans are attached. Any ideas on how to attach the rotisserie to the car?
My neighbor gave me 9 cans of this purple paint so i figured id spray the rotisserie. Looks great.
Had the motor/trans out in 90 mins!

Hey everyone! My name is Peter Sessler. I am a recent owner of a 1969 Mustang Fastback. I got the car on ebay in January and it has TONS of issues! But that's OK! I looked for one for about 9 months before I found one i could afford. I am going to have to tear everything apart anyway. A little backround on me..... Ive been a part of car forums for almost 20 years. My dad is an automotive writer. He has written over 90 books on cars. He had two 1969 Boss 429 Mustangs a 70 Mach 1 and also a 67 GT350 Convertible growing up. My dad has been on his "last legs" for the better part of a decade so this car is going to be our final project together.
My plan is to build this car into a Boss 429 clone. From the outside it will appear as a stock Boss 429- but will have modern running gear. Interior will be as stock looking as possible as well. Using a 460 block and a pair of Jon Kasse heads. Stroke the motor to 600 cubes and have stack injection. I have been collecting parts for the project and also enjoying the car for what it is. I really refer to it as my gray turd. Car needs a new floor pan- cowl dumps water onto your feet, a bunch of patch work on the rear quarters among a lot of other areas. Basically the previous owner rattle canned the car and threw it together to sell it. Saying it was poorly "thrown together' is an understatement. Since I got the car I have completely re-wired it with a AAW harness. The car had almost ZERO wires in it. The dash was full of sand and dirt. I rebuilt the C4 myself which was a great experience. I have since acquired a 9" rear and a TR6060 that I plan on using- the 460 is on the stand- and I have the Boss 429 hood scoop. Within a couple of months I am going to buy the Mustangs to Fear long subframe with their IFS, a watts 4 link rear and big brakes. The car has non power drum brakes, but it does have power steering and factory A/C (that isn't there). Its a pretty basic car. I am going to do as much work myself as I can. I have never done body work before so that will be a new challenge. I am able to weld and do some light metal fab. I am a member of Vintage Mustang forums and also the Mustang Club of America. My wife has a 2005 Mustang GT in legend Lime with a 5-speed, long tube headers- and she absolutely loves the car. I have a 2013 Dodge Viper at 600whp so I am accustomed to a car having power, handling, and being able to stop. That's what I want my Boss 429 clone to be like. There is no reason it cant.

Car hasn't had lights in who knows how many decades. I really like wiring. It is astonishing me how it DESTROYS time!
The frame has massive rust holes and the floor pan is literally cut up and screwed together. I am surprised that I don't fall through the floor.
It does start right up and that's something though. I recently installed a 1 wire alternator and an electronic ignition. Everything leaks and the front wheel bearings are scary sounding but its still so nostalgic driving the car. Looking forward to reading your posts and contributing where i can! I have a ton more pics on my build thread on VMF, but i somehow found my way here so I figured id join a club dedicated to the most beautiful Mustang ever made.
