  1. When i asked the guys at the shop for some things they weren't very helpful and asked if they were designing the engine. Not what I expected from a shop that I'm dropping a little over $4k at but that was when I only hired them for the machine work/assembly Now that I'm spending more, maybe they can GIVE me some advice
  2. Ill check them out, thanks for the advice. http://www.cjponyparts.com/canton-oil-pan-kit-front-sump-t-pan-351w-1965-1973/p/OPK2/
  3. Hey guys, Thanks to everyone's help I only have the ignition left to decide on for my 408w. The 69 351w distributor I have has a bad vacuum advance and I was looking at the pertronix 3 ignition set ups. I first chose msd then after some knowledgeable people telling me how they have really gone down hill I returned my box and coil. Anyone running a pertronix ignition with good results? I wanted to use just the module in my distributor but like I said, bad vac advance
  4. The tire I chose for now has a 25.91 height and I entered that but it's just not showing
  5. I understand what your saying. Am I correct thinking anything below 3k rpms with cause my converter to slip and heat up my trans fluid? I have a external cooler but I don't want to cruise at 65mph at 3k rpms and cause excessive engine wear unless that my only option with my current torque converter. I'm thinking my best option is to just learn how to change the gear on the rear diff and just experiment. I'll use the calculator link to figure out what gear would give me Good street manners and ok rpms at 60 mph with a 26" tire.
  6. If having two different 3rd members won't be a big benefit as in having one to cruise and the other to tear up the streets/quarter mile with my trans, what ratio do you guys think would be best?
  7. Yes, your right. The 3rd member and axle kit i plan on buying will be a nodular case and daytona pinion with 35 spline axles. Strange is the ones that gave me the $2100ish quote.
  8. I already have a 9 inch rear from a 69 cougar. It currently has a 3.00 open diff if I remember correctly. I do need to check the bearing size still..... My gears are supposed to be 2.84, 1.63, 1.00 and lastly .78 Those and a 3k stall converter. To cruise at 60 mph what rpms do you think I should be at? I still need to learn about how to use the trans controller and how lock up happens so I don't burn my trans fluid while driving in town....
  9. No, I think your right. I just remember the 35 spline axle kit and truetrac 3rm member being like $2100 ish
  10. I need to buy the oil pan and pickup for my 408w. I already ordered the blueprinted oil pump and billet drive http://stores.precisionoilpumps.com/ford-351w/ Should I look for anything specific with the pan? The crank is 4.00 stroke and a 6.200 rod
  11. I remember the axles being the same price, it's the 3rd member and truetrac that I want that adds $$$$ for the 35 spline. What spline count is the one on the left?
  12. That's problably the people ive been thinking about when I think bad about these heads......
  13. So it's really only the springs that are crapola then huh? Well, not performance rated..... I just ordered new springs for my afr 205 heads since they came with solid roller springs that are too strong for the hydraulic roller cam I ordered. They weren't cheap since I needed seats, retainers and whatever else needed but it has to be less $$$ for the E street heads
  14. If I can save a little on something like this without installing some cheap parts then I'd like to do it. I keep reading bad stuff about msd distributors online. The guy that does these distributors also told me the blaster 2 coil I bought can be a hit or miss since its made in China and they have 3 plants...... a good, a bad and a horrible production plant for these coils
  15. I found this guy http://www.davessmallbodyheis.com/ He can rebuild and set up my stock 69 distributor that I took out of the 69 cougar I had with a msd trigger so I can use it with my msd digital 6al box. He gave me a picture with duraspark distributors to get for this conversion. But when I told him I have this one he just told me to make sure it fits in the block so I don't waste money but since my block is with the builder a hour away I can't just check. Does it matter if the distributor is a 2v or 4v or are the bodies the same? I don't remember if the 351w in the 69 cougar I had was a 2v or 4v
  16. Yes I priced them. I think the price difference is like $400 for the 3rd member and axles/bearings. I know the 31 spline aftermarket axles can handle a lot but im nervous about breaking something since I'm almost positive I'll end up with a high gear ratio in back since I have a 4r70w. That and the drag radials and caltracs.
  17. The first heads I looked at were the edelbrock street heads. Lots of people began to tell me the valvetrain included in the complete heads was no good for performance and your better off buying bare heads and getting your own springs and stuff I'm just sharing what I know/have been told.
  18. Yeah, that's the tire set I decided on. I was debating on the nt555r or nt05r these last few days and last night I talked with a friend that had the nt05r's. He told me they had a lot of 1/4 passes but only lasted 2k miles. I was ok with that because of all the 1/4 passes/ burnouts he had on them but what made me choose the nt555r's is he told me the nt05r tires are damn scary with any rain. I've seen some people say the nt05r does ok in the rain and others say they're horrible in any water. My friend confirmed that for me last night. So my end decision for my main question is My 18x10 torque thrust 2 wheels with 5.75 backspace with nt555r 285/35/18 tires for the rear. I just spoke with my engine builder a little while ago and my shortblock should be done in about a month from now. I'm running out of time to finish my 69!
  19. Looking good! Same thing I'm looking at but not sure if I need the 35 spline since I'm looking at getting 285 drag radials and possibly caltracs
  20. Very nice! After some more research I found out the nitto g2 tires I was looking at are more for autocross than drag. Now, I'm considering the nitto nt05r drags for the back or the nt555 tires. These two are more of a off the line tire and that's all I really care about and they have great high speed stability. They have great reviews and I also found out for a 10" tire the best size to go with is a 285 width to have the best traction. Something to do with the sidewalls. I know those tires won't last long but with the power I'll be making I need lots of grip and these tires have plenty especially when heated. They are also pricey at $300+! The size available is 285x 35 or 40 for my 18"s I was reading your thread and I noticed a guy saying he had rubbing with 275 tires also..... he has the same backspace that I do too. I can't be too bad and I'll figure something out. I'm about to order 1 tire just to be sure it'll fit because of what you said about each manufacturer having different actual widths even thought the numbers are the same. Just got to decide on the nitto nt05r or nt555. Thank you for sharing your thread and you have some big cajones for trying 315's! Ha ha ha
  21. Hey Mach1, ^^ Exhibit "A" your honor lol
  22. That price was for the used fan and clutch. But yeah, $282.47 I wonder if anyone ever buys them at that price? Oh, btw yay for me for 100 posts ha ha ha I really do like this forum, people here are much more helpful than some others I've been on
  23. Only $367.94 (after 10% web discount of course) lol
