  1. Last Friday May 25th this engine was on the stand with crank & pistons installed Monday we fired it up started on the 2nd crank banged & popped 7 & 8 wires were reversed. Broke it in for 30 mins everything went fairly well. I didn't do that much except setup the MSD system.

460 cu in Ford, all MSD, 950 DP, Isky Cam, Springs & Roller Rockers, Offenhauser Manifold.

    Here's one simple method.

That's a good video explanation was easy to understand.

The only thing I would add is after you've done your math to determine center line geometry I think his number was .355, 7.1 turns. I always use a dial indicator even though it's not necessary, either setup a 1" travel indicator or setup a standard indicator at the top of the throw & use .355 Jo block. I guess it's the machinist in me.

Didn't mean to add a new twist the OP will be fine doing it that way in the video.

Going to setup a 460 with an Isky cam, push rods  & roller rockers later today or tomorrow for a boat good refresher video.

  3. These specs are for SA570 out of the box.

    Primary Main Jet 54
    Primary Power Valve 8.5
    Primary Pump Nozzle Size 31
    Product Type 4150 Model Carburetor
    Secondaries Vacuum
    Secondary Main Jet 65
    Supercharged Application No

Mine is an older carb it came with 58 primary 66 secondaries & 31 pump nozzle. I found the 54 & 65 gave much better gas mileage & throttle response with one size down on the  power valve. You can pull the primary bowl without removing the carb just disconnect the fuel line & 4 bowl screws.

You can download the Holley doc's from their site with the list on your carb.

  4. No words can help they are more than just a family member never ending love that can always put a smile on your face when your down. We've owned German Shepherds since the late 60's we lost our last one to hip dysplasia 10 years ago we wanted another one but just can't take the pain of losing another friend.

I honestly love our animals more than most people. We have a cat that's my baby going on 15 years dreading the day we lose her.

I still get emotional thinking of our animals we've had during the years.

Wait what? No way. Bosch brand relays are my favored brand but I don't believe I've had any that weren't 87A's. Perhaps I just haven't noticed. It's been very rare when I've used that extra pin. What you said perfectly correlates with what my avionics friend was talking about though. I've gotta look into this. Always a good day when I learn something new! A quick look at one of my favored references shows the info was right there under my nose the whole time. They reference the fifth pin as 87B on those. They also call them "double output" relays. Don't think I can get one by that name in the parts store. More research. Later!

AZ actually sells them but they are listed on their website as a 4 pin instead of 5 pin, Amazon also sells them. The part # varies N005W or DF005W they're both the same.

I bought a case from Grainger for a bit over $10.00 I'm going to use them on the headlights also.

i am a scott drake dealer and can save you some money or parts if you want.

the best paint you can probably still get is ppg solvent base. the water base paint looks like crap.

if someone gave me an american wire kit i would not use it. i only use stock type wiring with minor mods to it whenever necessary

    Barnett,

Question about a Scott Drake t-stat housing I had another brand on mine that leaked no matter what I did. Found & bought a concours oem ford tooling t-stat housing when I was ordering some other parts it's a SD part # is C50E-8592-A. Hasn't leaked a drip since I put it on. Does SD have a line of oem concours Ford tooling parts? With a line of over the counter AZ, O's, NAPA cheaper repros.

I'll be buying some more interior parts like window cranks how can I order from you?

I agree on almost everything you suggested especially the PPG paint it's one thing you don't want to go cheap, lesser quality paint can ruin a build.

I haven't heard anyone say anything good  about AAW wiring kits.

    Sorry about the hi-jack

    Trips

I was running an old Pertronix 1 conversion till the dizzy finally wore out after trying a couple other setups I went to a Pertronix Stock Look Cast Dizzy they sell them as either 1 or 3.

I used a relay to power the coil with 12 volts using the fused stock wire to energize the relay didn't need to run a new wire from the key & the fused wire is still there if it ever goes back to points. The PO owner had a big mess of wires under the dash one was the 12v power for the dizzy, I'm slowly getting rid of the mess.

    Here's the Pertronix 3 for a 351c

  7. This type of relay is referred to as a Bosch or European style relay with dual #87 normally open N/O pins.Mostly used for powering a set of headlights etc.

    A relay with 1 #87 & 1 #87A is usually referred to as a common relay with #87 N/O & #87A N/C. When #30 triggers the relay #87A will change to N/O & 87 will change to N/C.

I'll try switching pins with dizzy & coil next time I'm working on it. It's working good now I hate to touch it.  I'll take some pics after the harness is cleaned up.

  8. I took a different approach using a relay Blazer 30 amp N005W sp/st with 2 #87 connectors to power both the 12v choke & distributor. I ran a short fused wire from the plus side of the battery, since I wasn't using the fused 6v wire to the coil I used that as the power on for the relay. Ran 2 wires 1 to choke 1 to dizzy, still need to make a harness for it now that I know it works.

It's been on there for over a month with no problems, plus I still have the fused coil wire if it ever goes back to a points system.

There's a lot of good ideas in this thread

Would have posted on this sooner if I had seen this thread.

  9. One other thought is to make sure wherever the ground wires are bolted on be sure to sand & clean the area of contact don't just rely on the bolt threads for a solid ground, then touch it up with some engine bay paint & cover it with dielectric I like using grounding blocks it gives you more connections in the future.

I have a set of 16' Fluke cables that I can reach any point on the car to check continuity from all grounding points. I went through the car making sure I had continuity from neg battery  to every grounding point I could find, I found several with poor connections.

A bit off topic our last boat the PO had connected 12v grounds to the bonding side (120 volt system) & 120 volt grounds to some 12v grounds this led to stray current in the water when plugged into shore power which could have killed someone in the water or me in the bilge if there was water present. It took me several days of sorting out wires to get it correct.

4 AWG wire is plenty for your system here's a good calculator to to determine amp loss of anysize wire.

    http://www.calculator.net/voltage-drop-calculator.html?material=copper&wiresize=0.8152&voltage=12&phase=dc&noofconductor=1&distance=10&distanceunit=feet&amperes=60&x=86&y=18

Here's the real issue , there ultimate goal is gun confiscation , because if gun control worked and it mostly would if enforced  , the why is the highest crime rates in the country in places with tough gun laws ?

We don't put the real criminals behind bars , they get paroled by some judge , they go out and do the same things

I really don't get your point I wasn't arguing for either side of gun control or confiscation of guns all I stated is what's happened in this country's society over a long period of time. Just turned on the news there was another road rage murder on I-5 at 1:00 am this morning & an officer involved shooting of someone who ran a stop light. I've been hunting, target shooting & skeet shooting since I was 15 I shot 22's with my grandpa when I was 8 yrs old he died when I was 10. All I stated is how the system failed I have no answers this subject it has grown into another one of those divide the country issues. The US population is 5% of the world with over 35% of the worlds gun related deaths this includes accidental, suicide & murders.

I would like to see some real debate on the subject with some real answers on a problem that seems to have grown into an epidemic.

The opiod drug problem is called an epidemic, it is but who's to blame? The junkie that was prescribed a legal drug pushed by his doctor & pharma companies then cut off left addicted to buy illegal drugs. When small towns with a population of 250 to 3000 people purchase 9 million to 30 million pills who's at fault? ( google that one )

In my opinion our country is in a period of time where it controls it's own destiny we need real answers to real problems not arguments. If it fails to solve the problems we'll be another blip in history that failed. I'm too old to care for me it's my sons & grandson I care about. Hopefully the young folks movement that has started will bring some change just like other movements have this country was founded by a revolution.

Our for profit prison system is another topic too long to discuss.

And all this time I thought you were in WA (Western Australia).

Very sad news. We do get a few shootings over here but mostly bikers and organised crime. It's very rare for a domestic shooting and there are almost no accidental shootings.

I am a gun owner and have to comply with some very strict rules. A firearms safety course first and safe storage and transportation rules. There is a zero tolerance policy with even a minor breach facing a gaol (jail) sentence. It takes away spur of the moment decisions. I can't remember the last shooting that involved a licenced gun owner.

I was initially against our laws but now they have been in force for 20- odd years I am all for them. There are some silly parts to the laws but on the whole they work well.

We have seriously considered moving to either Australia or New Zealand still might, the only thing holding us back is our son & grandson. I've been around guns all my life when I was 15 I had to go through an NRA gun safety & shooting program to get a hunting license at 16. That grew into several years of state sanctioned indoor target shooting, my 2nd year I was ranked 2nd in the state.

I think people in the US have grown numb to shootings & mass killings every night on the local news which we quit watching there is at least 1 killing. They can't be grouped into any one category it goes across all of society mentally ill, family arguments, gang bangers, drunks, idiots,. Dad shoots son or friend by accident the usual statement is the gun was empty I just cleaned it. If you pick up a firearm you better know the 1st rule point it downwards open the breach. Sadly the only requirement to own a rifle or gun is age must be over 21 for handguns over 18 for rifles even AR15 type & a broken background system to check for mental illness, felonies etc that's it no training buy it shoot it.

It has come out the son who killed his parents bought it legally at a local gun shop waited the 7 days for a background check which he past with 1 felony assault & multiple mental health evaluations under the care of a psycho doctor taking some strong meds. His brother warned the dad that he was mad and on the way over there & called 911 sheriff they arrived to late.

I have purchased & traded several firearms at the same shop I know the owner fairly well. I was looking at a new skeet rifle when someone came into pick up a pistol on the 8th day of the waiting period. He looked in the database told the guy the City of Buckley hadn't responded to the background check then handed him the gun. He told me it happens over 50% of the time, if the purchasers city of residence doesn't respond you get a gun doesn't matter if your wanted for murder.

  12. Wednesday about 7:00 pm we heard several helicopters didn't think much of it JBLM flys over quite a bit training. I spoke to my neighbor yesterday afternoon his brother in-law sub divided a parcel of land into 5 acre plots he had sold this plot next to his house last year the couple had just finished their house a few months.

Yesterday when we left 3 sheriff suvs came down the road then 2 more black with blacked out windows suvs went by I was going the same way when we got near a small park there were about 8-10 police vehicles all parked in a group talking. Thought this was strange then we found out about the double homicide of the parents by their son.

This happened less than a mile from our home. Sue mentioned she heard some gun shot's but didn't think much about it we're in a rural area hear gun fire all the time.

Several months ago 2 brothers got into an argument & shot each other about 5 miles from us.
So much for rural life if traffic weren't so bad we'd move to town.

    Here's the story
21-year-old man accused of killing his parents near Buckley; victims identified | Q13 FOX News

  13. As many of you know since I bought the Mustang I've had problems with several 351W dizzys. It had a Motorcraft date correct with Pertronix Ignitor it was set up using 18L curve cams for 36* mechanical advance with light springs all in at 1800 rpm it had a worn breaker plate causing it to stick bushings were shot cost to repair & have it curved was almost $200 so I shelved it. I tried several off the shelf new & rebuilt dizzy's from the usual local parts stores all of them had problems either at start up or after a couple months. Bought a new Ready to Run Billet MSD it failed 2 hours out of the box.

A couple weeks ago I bought a Pertronix Flame Thrower Stock Look dizzy with steel gear so far good. The workmanship is beyond what I expected it actually came deburred no sharp edges. Put it in fired before I could let go of the key.

All I'm going to do now is get rid of the 2 junky looking 12 volt wires from the fuse block. Bought a 30 amp 5 prong relay to mount near the dizzy & choke to supply the 12 volts to both

I have accumulated enough parts to put the date correct Motorcraft dizzy back together in the near future with all new parts the only parts used from it is the housing & shaft.  .
