finally took some time today for "me" & did the shelby drop & added the new 1" drop coils. ended up having to cut 1/2 coil to get the 1" drop as it stayed the same height uncut as the stock springs. may go a tad lower later, but want to get the rear springs done first, as one is sagging just enough to lift the opposite front corner up a bit. i'll get it level & then decide how much lower i want to go.

This is my first thread post on this forum. I have been reading and looking at alot of the other projects here and I am surprised by some of the projects I've seen here. I have seen some projects brought back to life I never would have imagined ever running again. My hats off to you guys doing these projects as I love 69 and 70 mustangs and seeing these cars resurected is great.

My project is my first car that has been sitting in the garage for 11 years now. I was 11 or 12 when my dad bought the car (with no engine or transmission) and started working on it he painted it and put a somewhat worn out 351C in it then got back into his love of drag racing leaving the car with a unfinished interior, barely functional wiring and no heat when I got it. The car basicly ran but wasn't very comfortable or nice inside. The car had been raced previously and some of the wiring had been hacked and the original A/C box destroyed and completely non functional. I installed a standard heater box and controls since that was all I could find, I patched the wiring to get things working and gathered a bunch of original but somewhat decent looking interior parts including mach 1 seats dash console and door panels for a few hundred dollars all on my high school summer job budget.

The front suspension and steering gear was completely worn out and unsafe and the wiring harness that I patched together shorted out. I was trying to come up with the money to fix the suspension when the wiring shorted then a week later the engine dropped a valve leaving me with a car that completely needed rebuilt.

Over the years I let my dad talk me into putting a mustang II suspension into the car so we slowly worked on that project. The car has been sitting for about 5 years now without being worked on but now I am married and settled down and although I don't have a ton of money to throw at it I can start getting things finished up on the front end. I have also located a wiring harness and I have a 351W that doesn't need much but a intake and carb. This time around I think I can do things a little better than when I was 18 and didn't know much better. Sorry for the novel but I figured I would give the back story of how the car has gotten into its current state.

Now for some pictures. If you look in the background you can see my dads drag car (yellow 06 all fiberglass mustang with 545ci BBF that runs 5.20's @ 131 in the 1/8th) and my 90lx notch (460/powerglide 6.40's @ 108).

The triangle black plastic vent that goes below the quarter window. Below the door latch. This is on a 1970 coupe. I messed mine up and need to replace them. I haven't seen them in any catalogs. Thanks for any information that you can give. Sorry I don;t have any pics at this time.

Xde4hewkew reacted to Rainey in 69 fastback...is this a good start?
I'm new to this forum and I don't know if this is the right place to post but my dad and I want to find a 69 fastback with minimal or no body work left to do so we can focus on the motor and interior. We found one with the following:

Body work: All complete and catalogued since media blasting

Suspension/handling: Stock upper and lower control arms, 720 coil springs, kyb gas shocks, steeroids rack and pinion steering, adjustable tie rods, subframe connector

Brakes: Baer Track System 13" rotors drilled and slotted for both front and back.

Rear end: 9" Posi rear end center section (new(clutch shaft reinforcement kit))

    Comments or suggestions?

Hey gang, been gone a while, frankly too many projects in the backyard, the GT still looks good, and thankfully, no mechanical issues with it, other than the GT stripe and interior work I haven't touched in a while, LOL, I pretty much charge up the battery every couple of months and that's it, today was the first time I drove it in months, and it drove beautifully, really need to do that more often :). Anyway, couple of pics. Sorry, big pics, new camera.

I bought this car in May 09 it was parked in a barn in rural Alberta Canada since 91 this car had a "REAL" bad restoration back in the day. It is a 302 with a C4 Light Ivy Yellow with a black top and white interior ( Marti Report) More body filler than I have ever seen on one car. One of those" is it really worth it" kind of cars.

Progress is slow but somewhat steady, my wife wants me to spend "quality time" with her instead of the Mustang. She is not at all into cars so it makes it more a casual build than what I would like.
I am building this car to drive, the only time it will sit dormant is in the long Alberta winters. I plan to drive this car every chance I get.

I am trying to get the pictures uploaded to this thread but so far all I can seem to do is get it in my albums

Xde4hewkew reacted to RPM in 69 Mach Blasted
Bought this M code 351W, 4bbl, FMX, San Jose built Mach I daily driver in 1989 for $2,500. It had rust thru on both lower rear quarters. Put in 2 lower 1/4 panels and did a $2,000 paint job.
Drove it little over the next few years till it jumped into reverse one day while warming it up without the parking brake on. Ran over a concrete mixer, and stopped at an 8"x 8" gate post. Gate post won. Did the rear panel repair, farmed out the 1/4 repair and paint. Drove it little after that mainly because of a leaky and slipping FMX. In 1996 I stripped the car down to a shell, had it soda blasted, and took it to the body shop for body work and Porshe Indian red paint.
Bored the block .030 over and stroked it with a Scat 3.85 stroke crank. AFR 185 heads, and a Stealth intake up top. Located a C5 trans to swap for the lite weight FMX. A 9 inch with 3.50 gears and traction lok bring up the rear. 13" 02 Cobra disc up front, and 84 El Dorado 10" disc in rear. Making tube front and rear control arms for coil overs.
Built a 900 sq ft shop/pool room addition for the stang. Met a gal in 02, got married, did nothing on the car, just got divorced. Bout ready to get going on it again. Got the bug.

I bought a pair of ported Trick Flow Track Heat heads back in the early 2000's and at the time they did and still do make great power, but technology has advanced a lot since then and the reason I got the heads is because I was afraid of clearance problems with a raised exhaust port and my Hooker Super Comp long tubes. How high has anyone gone with raised exhaust ports with stock shock towers and long tube headers without hitting the transmission or steering box, or shock tower or anything else? I've got manual steering so I don't have all that power steering stuff in the way

I have been on this site for a year now, so I figured it was time to finally post. I have had my Mustang for a year now, but only had an opportunity to drive it twice before I deployed.

The plan was to install a new suspension and brakes while I was gone, but it ended up turning into a full restoration due to rust and shoddy prior work.

The car is finally off the framing machine (frame rails replaced, back end was way off square) and is now getting ready for paint (Ford Silver Metallic).

I am building a 69 coupe. I am putting all the shelby parts on it. Since I'm doing a restomod I was thinking maybe a two tone paint job. What do you all think? Should I do something like a two tone paint or keep it simple with one color and maybe some stripes? Reason I'm asking is I don't want the two tone to be overkill.

    Hello,

Long time listener, first time poster...

Just picked up this fastback locally. All CA car, pretty much all original. I am the third owner. Story is: last owner bought a wrecked 69 Mach 1 from a junkyard in 1976 with only one straight panel left on it. He found this F-code fastback (fwiw-250ci I6/V8 front suspension, 5 lug wheels, sport package) and swapped engine/trans/rear axle/dash over to this car. Pretty much all original except paint, ball joints, carpet, speakers (garbage), wheels/tires, brake pads, air cleaner, carb. Also has a 69 Ford hi-po intake manifold. It is a project, needs everything. No major rust, just usual spots on bottom front of doors. New starter goes in tomorrow. Yay!

This weekend was a big one for me because I finally brought my 69 Mach1 to my house from my mother's garage where it has sat for the last eight years. I'm looking forward to taking her back to the condition she was in 2002. I looked for a Mach1 for 2 years all over the country with my Dad and finally found "Sally" in California. I bought her from an elderly gentleman that restored mustangs (this was his 15th restoration).

She is all original aside from the carb, 351w, PS, PB, A/C, auto, Royal Maroon Exterior. I actually found the original build sheet under the back seat too. The eight years of sitting took a toll on her and she was horribly dirty. I've started to clean her up and noticed a ton of stuff I'd like to do to her. I look forward to posting on here and soaking up as much info from you guys as possible.

The guy that restored her had some professional pictures taken and she was in a Official Ford licensed calendar a few years ago. I'll try and scan in the picture soon and post it.

Xde4hewkew reacted to Big Secz in New Engine and Trans
As some of you may know from my past threads I have been having engine and trans issues for a while now.

The engine has had an annoying tapping sound for some time now, which I’m fairly confident, is the result of a bad lifter or two, in addition to low compression readings and leaking oil. The Transmission has been acting up as well, making a horrible groaning sound and taking off from a dead stop at stoplights has become somewhat embarrassing between my snails pace accelerations and the clack-clack-clack coming from under the hood.

A few weeks ago I received a notice in the mail from my HOA informing me that they were about to re-stripe the development’s parking spaces and that all cars had to be moved for the entire day. Refusing to park the Mustang on the public street, I opted to park her at my parent’s house. After not starting her for over two weeks I got in her and fired her up. The usual tapping sound was still there as expected, but when the transmission decided to take a turn for the worse and ended up having to drive the entire way to my parent’s house in second gear. Luckily they only lived 10 miles away.

I didn’t run into my first snag until I went to remove the radiator. One of the trans lines going into the bottom of the radiator gave up a fight and the result was a crimped trans line. Simple enough fix, cut and flare the end and should be back in business.

Next obstacle occurred when I went to remove the driveshaft. After removing the U-bolts, I took a large screwdriver and pushed the driveshaft further up in the trans mission to allow clearance for the back of the driveshaft to drop down. This little maneuver almost resulted in a bump on the head when one of the end caps fell off the universal joint. Just add that to the list of parts to get.

I removed the engine and trans all at one time and this required some creative maneuvering to pull off. Being in a grassy yard the engine hoist was in a ¾ sheet of plywood to allow some rolling ability and prevent the hoist from sinking in the ground.

So the process went something like this. Lift the engine and trans, drop the car down from the jack stands, roll the car back, bring over a small trailer, drop the motor in the back of the trailer, pull out hoist and away she goes.

So what’s next? Soon I hope to have her off to the paint and body shop to take care of repainting the entire engine bay. I’m still on the fence about buying a crate engine or rebuilding mine, and the same goes for the trans, buy new or rebuild. Right now I’m leaning real heavily toward crate engine and new trans.

We’ll see what the next few weeks bring.

Below are a few pics of the old engine, the now naked engine bay and the cap from the universal joint. I reset all the needle bearings and discovered one was missing. I'm just going to sprink for a new one.
