  1. Unless you have excuse blow buy or the oil is not returning down from the heads the pvc is not your problem. Timing also wont change how much it smokes...
  2. Let me make some uneducated guesses not knowing anything of the motor and your time with it.. 1. Rings are stuck from sitting. 2.valve seals or valve guides are no good. 3.Motor is just tired all the way around 4. Intake gasket leak from the oil side. Sometimes if the rings are stuck from sitting .. if you can get it out and run it they my un stick.. Thats a big my!!!!!!
  3. A compression test is a very good place to start... I take it from your post that the motor is smoking? Or is it just eye burning fumes from to much fuel? Im thinking the history of the motor is unknown?
  4. Dead fuel will not vaporizes very well if at all in a cold motor.. The 10-15% ethanol only makes matters worse so far as carburetor problems.. Getting non ethanol fuel is a short term fix for a long term problem if you dont use the car very much.. A full tank of fuel will last way longer than a near empty tank most of the time..

  6. Keeping in mind that it ran good before the car took a long nap..(but I don,t know that) Carburetor or fuel or both would be at the top of my list.. After a motor warms up air leaks don,t tend to get a lot better at least the surging kind. But have I been wrong before!!!Sometimes more than twice.
  7. Most fuel additives don,t work very well if at all with the current fuel blend we have at the pumps.. But people keep buying it...It gives someone a job... Surging would normally be from running lean be it an air leak(split hose or fallen off) or a lightly plugged jet and possibly dead fuel. The current fuels can corrode an all ready small jet into something barely usable over time.. If you dont use the car much you my still have the gas in the tank from last year or the year before.. This is not good because it will lose much of it ability to start your motor and have it idle well.. Thats why racers only use fresh fuel....And give the old stuff to there friends.. At the very least I would turn the air screws all the way in than readjust them. This my push some of the corrosion off the port and needle if there is any..
  8. I vote for a custom cam a little more money a little more time but well worth it.
  9. If it clicks but wont spin over most of the time it is a dead battery or a bad starter There was the time i had a bolt back out from my flywheel and jam the motor up.(two hours from home)
  10. You say the car wont start... do you really mean it wont turn over? Or it turns over but wont start?
  11. A motor is just a dumb piece of metal...... it doesn't hate you or love you But just like a woman if one thing is not right!!!! O the grief it can lay on you....
  12. I have found with headers the best gasket is no gasket at all.. If the head is flat and the header is flat there is no reason to leak? Ford never used EX. gaskets... I do understand that most headers are welded up ground down and sent out.. Take 10 min and look to see what you have before trying to bolt them on.. Dont think i ever saw an EX header gasket that didn't leak at some point.. With no gasket you may have a weep with a gasket you will have a leak.. Im I wrong?....
  13. FPA headers were on my list but went with Sanderson's.. The motor I had at the time is very far from what I have now.(Now 408-Chi 60cc 4-V---roller hyd- .621-.631-238-239@.50 LS112 Than...351 .030 over..63cc cast iron heads..BT intake 750 holly...560-.560 235-235@.50 LS108 The headers made a big change in free revving and less strain going down the road.... Bottom end not so much! I have found that your stock stroke 351C unless you put a RV cam in.... it can be a little lacking on the bottom end.. NOW.(408)..bottom end power not a problem.. Back to something maybe more use full. On a stock 351 2-V I would just run the cast iron ex. till you really know what you want to do.. Wanting to go faster can creep up on you........
  14. Running Sanderson shorty's on my 351 4-V Had my fill of long tube headers for daily driving on lowered cars long ago.. Sanderson's will need a little tune up in the weld department if you do get them... but they do fit good...
  15. The box is 4 years old. When I put it on I could not believe how much better the car ran.(4 years ago) When I took it off I could not believe how much better the car ran. Lucky I did not spend a lot of money to find this out. Just more time that could have been used else ware.. Old cars are kind of a time machine in many ways...
  16. After battling with a light cruse miss fire from apx.1400-2000 rpms over the past weeks. I have changed timing.(From inside the car)(And out) jetting.(EFI)And put a carb.back on.... This made it worse. valve adj. plugs. plug wires. Comp ck.(205psi) By passed the MSD box today?????? Problem is now gone.. Car ran fine with the MSD as long as you did not want to light foot it at low speeds. YES THEY CAN GO BAD..But not in the way you would think..

  18. Not much help on this one.. I have found that working on an old car is more like a pendulum.. You are always back and forth Sometimes more back than forth. THATS the fun of it ?????

  22. I remember plug no 8 on my 500KR O so well...Having headers did not make it any easier... Never tired pulling the covers off..30 years have passed...I know pulling the covers off my 351C makes it a lot faster.
  23. What we need is a spark plug changing contest. The FE will win every time(Or lose) Yes the FE will give you that FULL feeling..
