If there is a lodge in your area, go to it when you see some cars parked. Knock on the door, and the rest will follow. They 'choose' to accept you, you have to ask to for the acceptance, if that follows. I'm pretty sure that's how it works. (I'm not a mason. There is a lodge in my little hamlet, but it's filled with Pike Masons.)

I think the marks on the dowel method would work, you'd just have to measure at the same angle as it went into the plug hole. Which would be slightly more than what the plug rests "at"-since the dowel would be touching the top of the plug threads, and the bottom of the plug threads. The bottom of the dowel would travel the same distance as the top of the piston-just at a different angle. FRH-Yes, pulling the intake, exhaust and the head would be easier than dropping the pan and the bearing caps. Thanks for the reply, tho'!

Did anyone tell you you were painting your car "Arrest Me Red?" Joking aside, I'd be extra careful-Would you consider an aftermarket Cruise Control? It would seem to me that in these days, a prime Muscle Car would be just the thing for the Police Auction. (I'm sure our Boys in Blue might even like a nice fastback for themselves.) What you can do to protect yourself is the digital camera. Also make note of the dates/times/car #'s. I don't like to think that The Man is out to get us, but you do have to take every reasonable precaution. (Maybe even going so far as to stop in at the Cop Shop to talk to our boys...just park the thing in the station lot, and I'm sure the conversations will start themselves.)

I've read somewhere on the internet, that you can check the stroke of an engine without removing the heads. (Any help?)

I'm sure the GM folks would say not, but if one were to consider, "Top of the Line"...I would say yes. The SS pushes a 6.2-the Shelby has a 5.4, yes? We all know that the 69 Shelbys were pushed out of production because there were so many high-end factory Fords. I'll look and see if I can find some locally. In my conditions, I get a few years worth of rust in a matter of weeks! (And plenty to paint!)

More fodder, IMO, or a reason to upgrade to the Shelby! (Seriously, there are a FEW Camaro fanatics that were whining and pining for that car-let them have it, we'll have at it! I don't think that the sales bump will last long. I think there are more satisfied Ford Customers coming back for more where there are some Camaro-addicts who are just getting a fix. The Camaro looks better in motion than it does standing still, but I still think it's a pretty ugly POS on steroids. You've never seen a comparo between the SS and the Shelby, have you? I think that would be a wipe...I bet Chevy is betting on out-muscling what is, undeniably, the little sister of the Ford family.)

I wouldn't do it without $250,000 Insurance. There are probably all sorts of waivers for the race, but I would avoid even having a fender-bender in the parking lot. Vintage racing sounds fun, but we know that some guys out there are too fanatical to have their cars within feet of ours. Jayru, why not do a cannonball run? Website says they start with a Mustang GT, and they only mention bodywork. It's probably not much hotter under the hood. It's a shame because the body is pretty "wow" but there's something about the lip of the hood/fenders that ruins it. Are all GT's that small in the back? Those seats look like they're no good for good 'action'. Do the kids still do 'action in the back' these days?

How could you tell if those Chevy's and Dodge's were damaged?!?!? (Sorry, had to.) Lemme guess-that tent was set up by the same guys who did the Cowboys'? LOL! You'd have loved to see me crawling around screwing with my starter! Luckily I've only put on 15 pounds since High School. A few more beers, and that wouldn't have happened. I'm spoiled because I usually drive 4x4's on at least a 30" tire. I've done exhaust work on the side of the road, and never had to put my head on the ground. (Now that I've said that, I can tell you my daily is an AWD with skirts! I can barely change the oil without a lift...or at least a jack. And even when I put it on a lift, it's a chore.)

There's no way they're going to let a 5.4 DOHC (SC) out the door for less than 20K. I'm sure they'll charge you more for leaving the sound proofing out than it costs. Sorry to rain on your parade, but you can't forget their mercenary reasons.

2nd The style wheel isn't bad, and maybe there's some perspective problems with the shop, but you can't get around brushed anodized on a bright chrome car. You'd have to get them to match, somehow...IMHO.

The guys I know who have FMX's won't get off of them. (There's a "trick" to getting them to work effeciently.) On that note, I'd love to come pick one up Sid-but I don't have the means at the moment.

If only it were a Ford, that'd be right up my alley.

Just remember, if you should have to choose. No matter what type of ramble-down hovel you'd have to move to, it would look like home with the car in front of it. You current home would not look so with another car in front of it. No matter if it's this: or this: yeah, that's wrong, but it probably got you to laugh! (Tell the missus those are you're choices...got them cheap at eBay RIGHT NOW!)

The thing here is that you have a solid piece of old-school style. It may not perform with THE BEST of today, but you can't buy the overall effect. I wouldn't bite (sell) at less than 20K. But don't get into a rush to sell, either. I can see kicking yourself for a long time over that one. Money problems come and go, but you know you'll go a long time before you have that vert again.

In the future communications, make sure you tell the guy you appreciate him doing a consciencious job. (If the delays were mostly in finding a proper block, i'd cut him major slack. It seems like he's doing a job worth doing right, rather than hamming a thing together.) Don't be afraid to tell him you're getting anxious. That takes the pressure off of him to 'just get it done'. When you put a mechanic in that position, it's your fault when the engine blows at 6K. (miles.) If you laid the groundwork for the build so that both parties understand what is to be done, you can avoid the unpleasantness. Yeah, you're not supposed to be happy with the delay, but I'd rather have a good plant on a bad schedule than a POS right on time. The good part is that when you've paid 100%-you won't be running into Golden Time. The guy is probably losing money hand over fist in getting you what you want.
