mikee reacted to Rich Ackermann in My new 1970 M-Code Mach 1 Project
Okay I am looking for honest feedback here.....
The chrome on my taillight bezels is cracked and pitted. Can't find nice originals for a decent price and repros are about $70 a piece, so I decided to do something with the crappy ones I have. Having them re-chromed is out, and chrome paint looks, well like paint and not chrome. I kind of like the Boss all black look, but I am not building a boss. Trying to stay close to a Mach I look with the wide rocker moldings and the black honey comb tail panel. So I decade to try painting them black (Boss like), but then bring in the body color to ascent the three light portals and break up the all black look. So here is the result...
You won't hurt my feelings if you don't like them or think they look cheap. Honest opinions are what I am after....

Okay. I am really getting excited! The paint is on and it looks fantastic! Still needs color sanding. Need to paint a few more parts and paint the black Shaker hood stripe. Cant wait to get her home and install the steering and suspension and put her down on wheels.

Scoop finished
We are getting close to finished - minor rust repairs in the doors, hard lines for engine oil to and from the trunk, fit rear bumper a little closer, and a strut brace rod and we're good to start on the exhaust.

Radiator support done and made removable. I hope I'm not pulling the engine and trans out often but this will make life alot easier when it's required.
The scoop almost finished, we aren't allowed to have carbs etc hanging out the hood here in QLD unless under a scoop. This will bolt on from underneath so it can be taken off if desired though.

The fuel tank is finished and sump tank recessed into trunk. The fuel tank holds 75 litres which is about the standard capacity I believe
The engine breathes out the bottom of the sump tank. I'll see how it goes but depending on how much oil residue results from venting there I may have to weld fittings on the outlets and vent to a separate catch tank.

mikee reacted to Gallican in My new 1970 M Code
Hello all,
Thanks for letting me in! Picked up this 1970 M code this week. Finally have it in the garage and I am still sorting through all the boxes/parts to see what I ended up with. As you can see, body and part are the main things that need to get done before getting it back on the road. Has the original 351c with a four speed. Has not run in four years or so, so I might hook everything back up just to make sure it can go down the street. Most of the parts have already been refurbished or are NOS.
Let the fun begin!

Here is the mod i did for the door handles. i made a replacement for the latch out of ⅛ stock/ the original part is cast aluminum?
that would probably break if you tap the 8-32 thread into it.

Thanks for the welcome. Looks like a lot of cool projects...not sure why I never came across your site before??
You are correct, the wheel base is a little different and the body is wider. I widened the quarters and front fenders then split the inner door and widened them. The doors are stock '70 length but are taller than stock. I can post specific pictures of them latter today or you could see the entire project on Mustangs to Fear Forum page.
I'm building this car because I prefer the old school look but like the modern conveniences that come with the 09 (drive train, suspension, brakes, lighting, A/C, etc). I love the challenges that go with it and am doing it for fun. After completing the body, I decided not to go with the stock 09 dash and wanted to build the interior from scratch except I'm using a headliner from Mustangs to Fear. My dash is basically done and now I'm working on the rear seat area. My plan will be to wrap a lot of it with leather. I've included a couple more recent pictures of it.

I primed it today with Roberlo DTM primer. looks like liquid cement. even using a 2.0 I had to thin it a bit and it still came out powdery-ish.
So being i am not confident in body work and paint AT ALL, i started you tube-ing..
I cam across Rich (MTF) doing a door, and let me tell you im sure i will not have the patience to give a door or fender 2 hours. I wish some of you guys were closer I would give it to you guys to do.
I found this guy on youtube, Funny shit!!

Got my car delivered from paint. House of Kolors Candy Brandywine over base black. Stripes and lettering all painted along with blacked out bright work throughout. Now onto the interior.

Mike got the rest of the fuel line install done. Now headed to his shop in the next week or so to start the car for the first time with an intact fuel system, completed exhaust, and EFI system installed. Should be fun, will post the first start video …..

A few shots of the installed suspension. There were a few steps in between, like welding the brackets to the housing. I've since attached the sway bar and added brake lines.
Instead of changing gears and adding a True Trac, it was pretty much a wash to get a new nodular housing from Quick Performance, with a lower ratio and the True Trac. Then went with 31 spline and new axles. Scope creep. I didn't put the snubber on, not knowing if I'd need it with this suspension. I think I'd have a lot of other problems if it bottomed out. If I need to add it back, please share.
I can't set it up until all the weight is on the car, but it rolls again.

The TCP coil-over parts finally arrived and installed. I had the spindles powder coated black. I liked how they sort of disappeared and let the expensive suspension shine through.
13-inch Baer disc brakes added.
I have some more pictures to take tonight of the TCP rack.

When you get to do tedious jobs, there isn't a lot to share that is exciting. With a couple of delays I'm finally able to get on with the return fuel line. I'm using a stock 3/8" stainless line for the return, which is going to look really good. I did some bend manipulation to the prebent tube and drilled a 3/4" hole in the back of the torque box for it to pass through. Both lines fit through the stock oval front hole, which took a little bit of time so both tubes are not bound tight.
Spent a while looking through the inter web to find some appropriate clamps, which I didn't find. The closest clamp I found was 1/4" and 3/8", no dual 3/8" clamps sooo....
A little tooling and creativity with some stainless sheet and we have clamps.
I have to cut and bubble flair the new tube for its attachment up front and get it all bolted down to stay.

mikee reacted to MikeStang in New Center Console
Well after much deliberation I decided to build another center console and take my time and do some upgrades like Cup Holders, USB Ports and such...I built one to about 75% completion and didnt like how the face plate looked so I trashed it and started over, heres the end result.
Wish I was better at installing upholstery but it doesnt look to shabby.
Have to order me a billet bezel and leather shifter boot and she will be all buttoned up

Started to install our Shelby nose. In order to get the top of the left fender to fit we had to cut it off and reweld it. We also found out it's better to let the customer weld the bump stops on our radiator support, because there can be a huge difference between a fiberglass hood and a steel hood. We recommend screwing the bump stop down half then close the hood until it touches, then you can weld them in place.
