  1. The shaker scoop is a favorite aspect of the 69 and 70 Mustang for me. And, I will be going to great lengths to fit the unit up under my high rise type intake. If I'm gong to do all that, then I'm not going to go cheap on the scoop assembly. Additionally, I will likely have to modify the airfilter pan and I just feel I could do that cheaper with a metal pan than that of a fiberglass pan. If I mess it up, I can acquire another pan. Rember, I have the Aussie ring. Lastly, I feel metal is just better and of course closer to the original. This guy makes a very nice unit....I've seen it. He's also a very nice guy: http://www.fordramair.com/new/info/faqs.htm
  2. I looked in to this sometime back, as I had considered a fiberglass unit. Everything I read that came from owners who had fiberglass units was positive. I just couldn't do it.
  3. Bill, I suspect you know better than I do regarding the concours shape so here's some pictures. As to the 2.25 diameter, agree but I'll make them work. [/img]
  4. Thought I share this, if in fact, you are looking for some nice 70 exhaust tips. While my car is a 69 Mach, I much prefer the 70 tips over the 69. My car is somewhat of a resto mod so this is not much of an issue for me. Regardless, quality 70 exhaust tips run as much as $140. I found the following on ebay and received them the other day. I could not be more pleased with them, as they are an excellent copy of the originals and they are stainless steel. Moreover, I paid a mere $55 for them delivered. The ends are rolled like the originals and the finish is beautiful. http://www.ebay.com/itm/LXP-Stainless-Pair-Mustang-Tips-1970-Mach-1-55200-/130799857063
  5. Yeah sure.....maybe this Saturday though. I'm swamped with stuff till the weekend.
  6. If I might jump in here.....I'm going to purchase the Tinman subframe connectors and in fact called and spoke with the owner today.....real nice guy. In conversation, he asked me what I was building and asked if I had considered traction bars. In fact, I have been looking at some from CalTracs. Tinman makes a set now that work with his subframe connectors and they appear to be very nice. For those of you who are more familiar with this type of item and their function, wonder if you might comment? Below is a link to the traction bars. http://www.tinmanfabrication.com/index.cfm/page/ptype=product/product_id=146/category_id=59/home_id=59/mode=prod/prd146.htm
  7. I believe that's where I purchased my adapter ring as well, only I went through ebay. I also purchased my shaker scoop and mid-plate through them as well. Here's the ebay link: http://www.ebay.com/itm/390404639997?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649
  8. Just a quick note, as I scrounged a factory ford air filter base today and wanted to see how the conversion ring fit on the base. The air filter was off a late 60's to early 70 302 2V and measured 17.250 OD and 17.00 ID. The OD is the rolled flange at the top of the air filter base measured from edge to edge. The adapter ring fit perfect sliding right inside this air cleaner pan. If I need to lower the scoop (running RPM Airgap intake as stated above), I'm thinking I may be able to cut up to 1/2" off the top of this air filter pan. As my luck goes though, I'm still looking at a headache. My saying, "what can go wrong, always goes wrong".
  9. I believe the ring fits the 18.750 diameter air cleaner. However, I have an RPM airgap intake and some adjustments will need to be made to utilize the shaker. I have ordered some 1/2" drop engine mounts, but that alone won't cut it. A lower air cleaner pan might help out, thus the request for the dimensions. Wow, 3 1/4 depth, that is substantially lower than what I'm finding on most air cleaner pans. Thanks!!!
  10. I also have the Aussie Shaker Ring, but won't get around to messing with it until mid part of next year when I begin the mock-up of parts I have acquired......engine, trans, etc. That said, does anybody know of an existing source for Ford factory air cleaner dimensions?
  11. If I may ask, why would you go with the Tinman subframe connectors over your Global West connectors?
  12. Was not able to find a build location anywhere on the tank or the paper work. Suspect it is an overseas job, but it is very good quality.
  13. Off topic a bit, but is the advantage of an electric fan that much over a good mechanical clutch fan? I'm in the process of resto-modding my mach (500 HP Windsor, TKO-600, etc) and have looked into this and for my needs, I don't think so. If you're looking for pure HP, maybe, but I don't think the gains warrant the extra work and hassles. I don't know....
  14. Just a note on this topic, I purchased the stainless fuel tank from CJ Pony as noted in the discussion above. I received it yesterday and, visually, I'm very impressed with it. I'll know more when it goes in. One of my concerns was that with it being stainless, the manufacture would take the cheap route and give us some really thin gauge metal........ not the case. Nice product.
  15. Hey cobra460, thanks for your input. Based off that and others here, I went with the tank from CJ Pony, which I am certain is the same tank offered on Ebay. I purchased the tank kit, which comes with the tank, of course, a sending unit, hoses and screws and such. Total cost $228.28 and this includes the shipping. Here's the link: http://www.cjponyparts.com/fuel-tank-kit-standard-with-stainless-steel-fuel-tank-with-drain-plug-1969/p/FTK12/ I'll post thoughts when it comes in. Thanks fellas!!!
  16. Those of you whom purchased this tank from either Ebay or CJ, does the metal gauge close to the original? I don't want to purchase something that is paper thin. Thanks!!!
  17. Scott Drake advertises a reproduction stainless tank as well. These guys tend to be known for a bit better quality in their parts. I wonder if their tank is the same thing only with the Scott Drake name on it?
  18. Thought I might take advantage of some of these black Friday sales. I need a new fuel tank for my 69 Mach ( I do desire to keep the 20 gal tank) and was looking at the following: http://www.cjponyparts.com/fuel-tank-stainless-steel-with-drain-plug/p/FT25-V/ CJ Pony just does not put much in the descriptive. Wonder if someone can advise? Might this be some Chinese cheap garbage or should I look elsewhere?
  19. Nice car and a steal at $8k. I say leave the interior as is, it looks great. Had a friend in HS that had a 71 GT. He bought it from the original owner back in 79, I think. The car was bright yellow, all original with a 302 2v carb, but decked out such that it looked very fast....i.e. Cragar wheels, rear window slats, front spoiler. The original owner called it, "The Boss Banana". Beautiful car, done up real well, but a turd with a 302 2V. I can't imagine anyone ordering that size of a car with that engine. In fact, it seems strange to me now that that car, being a GT, would even be offered with that engine. Again, awesome find on your part.
  20. Wow....beautiful car and an awesome build....thanks for sharing and great to have you here. Please post your build progress in the "Project Progress Forum", where many of us can follow it.
  21. Thanks for the response, friends. Still undecided on this, but likely will go with the simple flex fan at first. If not content may go with the thermostatic clutch fan. I've ruled out the electric fan/fans. While this is somewhat of a resto-mod, I'm wanting to keep a somewhat stock look and that includes the underhood area. 69gmachine, you gotta link to that fan? Thanks always to your input here as well.
  22. Doing some research, found this: http://www.haydenauto.com/Featured%20Products-Fan%20Clutches%20and%20Fan%20Blades/Content.aspx I also found some interesting comments here: http://www.chevelles.com/forums/showthread.php?t=39513
  23. I'm doing somewhat of a resto mod on my 69 Mach.....408 W, TKO-600, blah, blah, blah. Engine has a serpentine belt system. Had originally planned to use an electric fan but am now considering the other alternatives which are essentially, a simple flex fan or a clutch fan for which can be acquired in either thermal or non thermal. The more I think about it, the less motivated I am to go the electric route. Your thoughts in this area would be appreciated, especially those that are running a clutch fan on their performance orientated Mustang.
  24. Sheez Craig, that stallion ripps!!! What's best time without the bottle? BTW, I'll be sending you a PM. John
