I'm with you there barnett468. As I drove towards their building I could not imagine what was going on with this car parked in the front lot with the doors open and the seats and carpet sitting on the car roof. Very odd looking but as I walked towards the building I figured it out. I wonder how long that car smelled like resin? Dave R.

I saw a mold being made by the small molder I referenced above. They stripped the seats and carpet from a car that they had rented from a rental agency but they usually went to a wrecking yard and used a junker for this purpose. They then laid up fiberglass mat and resin in the floor pan. When the mold was set they removed it from the car and used a matrix of various sizes of lumber to form a framework. A second mold is made from the bottom of the first mold as I recall. The heated carpet is mashed between the two molds hydraulically. This molder didn't use actual floor pans but that is not to say others don't. Dave R.

barnett468, congratulations on your business success. If their carpet was such high quality why did Distinctive get out of the carpet business? I've had the opportunity to watch carpet being woven, in person, and that is a fascinating process. Or I thought so at least. I've also had the opportunity to see carpet sets being molded mostly at an operation that was much smaller than ACC is. The ovens that heat the carpet and the presses that smash the heated carpet between the mold halves are nothing elaborate. I think that the equipment could be made in-house if a competent welder was available. The making of the molds would require some experience with laying up of fiberglass. Maybe someone should fill a void in the restoration business by molding high quality carpet sets. Dave R.

Is it possible that the supplier(s) of the carpet to ACC is making a lower quality carpet to begin with? You do realize that ACC does not weave their own carpet. They buy carpet by the roll and form it into the product that they sell. Maybe they are doing the best they can with what is available. Dave R.

In a grommet in the top rear of the pass side valve cover. I will correct my earlier post statement. I opted for using the '70 428 vacuum setup on my '69 for a reason that now eludes me. The '70 throttle bracket has a dip in it to allow the vacuum hose to clear the bracket as it comes out of the lower rear port of the carb and goes to the pcv which is in the pass valve cover. The carb port can be seen clearly in the picture above posted by stangs-are-me. The '69 setup did not use that port so the bracket was flat where it passes under the rear carb bowl. No dip or depression in it. My limited experience is with the 428 motor only. I recall "modifying" my bracket to allow the vacuum hose to clear. Dave R.

As I recall the '69 bracket is flat like the above pictures at least for the 428. The '70 has a section that is bent down to clear the vacuum hose for the brake booster that feeds from the carb rear. The '69 gets it's booster vacuum from the PCV in the pass. side valve cover. Dave R.

428 shaker; Stud to driver fender edge 23 1/2", stud to pass. fender edge 23 3/8", stud to cowl edge 17 1/4 ". Dave R.

I doubt that the coolant temp exits the radiator at less than 140* which it would have to do in order to register 140* on that rear sender. It has to pick up some heat between the radiator exit and the rear sender. What is the temp of the coolant as it exits the radiator as checked by a IR thermometer? I would guess more that 140* and the coolant temp can only go up from that point. Dave R.

I read several years ago that a temp sender that isn't in contact with coolant gives a cooler reading. The sender can't read hot air. I understand that you burped the system but air is the first thing that makes any sense to me. Maybe crack loose that rear sender ever so slightly, on a cold motor of course, and start the engine. After the engine is up to temp for a few minutes maybe any air will seep out around the rear sender. Dave R.

Danny Whitfield at dannywhitfield.com draws, by hand, amazing car prints. He has dozens of car models and hundreds of variations to choose from. He will also personalize a print to make it exactly as you wish. Even down to a personalized license plate. These prints are remarkable. Check out his work. I called him, he is in Tucson, about noon Wednesday and ordered. I emailed a couple of pics of my car and using one of his prints posted on his website I explained items to add, delete, and change. About 4 hours later I had the email of the proof for my approval. It was perfect. He called me later for my opinion. I gave him the go-ahead and the print arrived this morning and I couldn't be happier. My front license plate looks just like the real thing. After framing it will look great on my man cave/garage wall. While on his site click the button that gives Danny's background in this business. Great guy to talk to and very talented. Dave R.
