    Raven R code reacted to MAC390 in ~ 1969 428CJ installation
I put my 390 in with the C6 and hooker super comps on all in one hit.
I jacked up the rear of the car as high as could get it and put jack stands under .
Used the middle hole on my engine lifter bolted onto the inlet manifold
I have no steering box and steering components bolted up and the power brake booster was off also.
With the engine raised bring the whole unit  into the engine bay getting the trans extension housing as close to the trans tunnel.
Lower down slowly and bring the engine in and lower as it comes in.You need to get the tail shaft housing into the tunnel and keep lowering the engine and feed it in.
With the super comps on it's very tight but as you bring the combo down keep feeding the trans back'
You will see the pipes clear the right side rear of the shock tower and keep lowering the unit down and push back so the engine mounts go into position.
Put the jack under the trans pan with a timber block on it to raise the rear of the trans and install the rear cross member then mounting bolts through the chassis
Really it was not so bad, and  i had my eldest daughter 15 and my apprentice help me and it was done in under 2 hrs.
Just let the engine crane come down slowly and feed the unit in.
If you have standard manifolds it would be so mush easier.
Hope this helps contact me if you need more info.

I put mine in the same as MAC390, except still had the master cylinder and brake booster attached.  Looking back, it would have been easier with them out, and this may have contributed to my brake booster/master cylinder leak.  Not good to have a brake booster filled with brake fluid.  Mine was 428, toploader, and Hooker Super Comp Headers.  Put it in all at once with a total of three people myself included.

A friend of mine bought a 67 fast back ,the door tag said 390, acapulco blue . How ever when i started removing paint  the cowl was acapulco blue under the candy apple red with factory blue over spray in the engine compartment and fender aprons  .The back half of the car was candy apple red under the candy apple red  .When i started taking it apart and the carpet was removed i found where it had been spliced together at the floor to the fire wall ,and right in the middle of the front windshield posts and at the rockers  .It had been wrecked and a whole back clip was welded to different front clip. The pieces lined up very well and there was no way to tell this when he bought it  .The rear half did have the floor reinforcement for the duel exhaust so they must have also used a 390 rear clip .To say the least he was pissed ,i asked him what he was angry for ,he got a two for one deal

Reached my goal and made it to the first local car show today. Lots of lookers, pictures taken by folks, and at one time had 10-15 admirers standing around her. The remorse from selling the 70 conv today vanished. To top it off, the prior owner of my car of 30 years came, saw the car and started crying. We talked so long, didn't get the car registered to be judged, but no matter. Seeing him cry will never compare to any plac or trophy I might win in the future.

About to start assembling my motor. I have read the FE bible from Barry....so these tips are in addition. Had upgrades to the oil system done which includes the chamfering of the openings in the mains and enlarging the passage by the filter mount. A few things I am doing that I didn't do before include....not priming the lifters. Do not prime lifter because you will not be able to effectively measure push rod lengths. The other thing is to prime the motor by getting the oil pump up to speed on the engine stand. This will allow to check for leaks before installing the motor. One last tip....use pipe dope or other good sealant to seal the lower right water pump bolt. It is the only one out of the 4 mounts to open up into the water jacket. This one caused me much grief when my motor was freshly painted and leaked coolest everywhere.

So , please feel free to share any building tips or tricks related to the FE block. I will add more as they come.

My engine builder told me to toss the cork. I checked another 428cj and a 390 and they didn't use the cork either. The 390 guy said his builder said the same thing.

I'll just drop a plug in here for Midlife.  He redid my harnesses, and they are prefect.  I had zero problems.  I believe the aftermarket kits are more work, and frankly, I think you're better off with an original harness.  Midlife fixes everything professionally, and sends you a detailed wirelist customized for you car.  It's really a fantastic deal.

Wanna trade?? Lol. I'm trying to talk myself into the black. Everyone(my friends and family) knows I hate black cars and would never buy a black car.......and I have probably one of the best muscle cars ever.....and its black. So it's been tough ever since I pulled the marti report on it. Ugghh!! Sad thing is Gulfstream Aqua has been my favorite color on this car since I first saw one like it.....and I always thought it was the original color (for 29 yrs) because it was the only stock color on the underside of my side view mirror.

That is too funny!! Did they send you a letter too requesting photos?I hate phoney people. LOL.  Oh well.  Looking a little closer, I noticed the rimblow switch is wavy in the channel. I wonder if it just the cheapest thing around. I may consider putting my original back in or I have a new OEM ford switch in the tube.

As for the circuit board....I went with the one CJPP has. If it doesnt work out, I will consider having Midlife make a custom harness.

So... Aquarius is her name....smok'in tires is her game!

Starting to make some progress so the project progress begins. She is a rough but solid and rustfree, She came to me with 3,100 original miles and came very complete and original. She is an original triple black Mach 1, 428CJ coupled with a close ratio 4 spd. I am leaning toward Gulfstream Aqua though, especially since she gets hot without AC and after reading an article about how the ford designers never intended the 69 Mach 1 to be black (hence the reason black was a special ordered color), Their vision was to have the black accents highlighted by bright colors.
