Drove the car for the first time. The car hasn't seen sunlight in over a year so it was nice to get it out and take some pictures. It's now ready to put on a trailer and take to the exhaust shop. Great feeling!

Original shifter handle & arm bolted to the TKO-600 shifter. Seems to be a good fit. Too bad they don't make a 5-speed pattern T-handle.

Hello all, I wanted to re-introduce myself now that I'm back with a new project. Last month I picked up a 1970 Mach 1 that was a little rough, but looked like it had an interesting history. It's a Grabber Orange 'DSO 89' car, loaded with options including shaker hood, tach, tilt, am/fm, deluxe seat belts, fold-down, AC, PS, PDB, intermittent wipers, convenience group, bumper guards, and a few others. The car was ordered new by a Ford executive, and delivered to Ford Headquarters. The car itself has been sitting untouched for 20 years waiting for a new owner to rescue it. The car's pretty straight, but still needs a lot of work and parts. I'm going for an 'as-delivered' look, but will stop short of concourse, and I may even put a T5 in there since I'm partial to manual shift cars. Thanks for reading my long post, I'll try and keep the thread updated as I go.

Update - Car is gone!! Ok, well in a good way. The body shop picked the car up today to replace a bunch of sheet metal and repair the accident/rust damage.

Car leaving for the shop: (thought too late to snap a better shot!)

In the 2-3 months while the car is away, I'll have plenty to work on, and already started on some pieces. I got the dash panels together over the weekend, and the only repo parts here is the Di-Noc for the passenger woodgrain (perfect match) and the clock lens.

Got the wheels mounted, a controversial choice. Original 14x7 steel wheels and mint "new take off" Deep Dish Wheel Covers as original. I almost went with Magnums, still probably would if I hadn't bought the tires. But when was the last time you saw a set of these on a car? Let alone a mint set like these.

Shaker mania! I never met a Shaker I didn't like (or apparently, buy..) Trying to figure out which is the best/correct one. Left is for a 428 CJ, center is from a '69 351 windsor shaker, and right is the correct one.

Another day of progress, but couldn't get spark from the coil to the distributor so I have some more troubleshooting to do. So close I hate to walk away from it! Also...

Put gas in the gas tank (leak at fuel pump, replaced)
Put power steering fluid in the system (leak at new ram, tightened bolts)
Changed the oil (leaked out of drain plug, tightened)
Filled TKO (GM synchromesh, no leaks)
    Filled radiator

Haven't found any antifreeze or brake fluid yet, but when you work on a project for 3 years, replace everything with a mix of good used, rebuilt, NOS, and new parts, you're bound to have a lot of little puddles to clean up.

Back on it! Tying together loose ends (and bolts). Hoping to get it started in the next few weeks as I have time. Driveshaft is  4" aluminum from a 1997 Explorer V6 that I had shortened 1" and balanced.

I spent yesterday putting the rear brakes on and routing the e-brake cables, and decided to fully install the hood latch today.

At some point in my car's life, the original shaker was stolen. I decided to go the extra mile on this one for security and install a locking hood latch from a 1978+ Bronco. It's a bolt-in replacement. I bought one with the latch, cable, and key on Ebay and installed it this morning. Looks / works great. Now I can only open the hood from inside the car, just like a modern car. I can also lock it though that's more to hold the latch tight. The handle has a nice vintage look and doesn't seem out of place at all. one small hole extra in the firewall was all I needed.

    Here's the latch:

And here's the cable inside the car. Doesn't interfere with anything (including the column cover (which mounts to the left / and in front of it).

I feel like a mad scientist at this point, spending hours and hours locked away in my lab, err.. garage. I wired up the rest of the Gen IV kit and tested the functions. I also tackled the stereo and convenience group, among mounting various pieces and parts. I ended up going with an original AM 8 Track that I had FM and and iPhone input added to. Cool setup, and I already ate a Beach Boys 8 track tape. I also got the seatback release system working which is pretty neat. Between the clicking for that system and the clock motor winding up every few minutes, this car makes a lot of noise!

Clock panel, dash, and radio all in:

Dash lights work, had the speedo reset to zero. Notice the MPH, not sure if I'll ever take it that fast.

    Map light works:

Don't forget to fasten your seatbelts and release the parking brake. Intermittent wipers work as well. Two speeds to the right, with the delay wipers to the left.

Trunk light working, actually puts out a lot of light:

Making progress! Now that I've finished renovating a house and 100 other things, back onto the Mach 1. This car continues to fight me at every turn. But I'm stubbornly making progress.

Put the harness back in the car, it's coming back to life!

Also started installing the Vintage Air Gen IV kit so I can put the dash back together. I installed one in my Corvette and love it. The instructions for this one, however, are sorely lacking. Great product, but I feel like I'm fumbling around in the dark putting it together. Thankfully this isn't my first one but I am very surprised.

Everything was for my '69 coupe, but I'm pretty sure these fit most 65-70.

The Excel-G/GR2s are basically brand new. Maybe 100 miles, if that. I bought them to replace the Gas-A-Just and then when my steering went south I replaced everything with coilovers and Bilsteins. I also damaged the rears a bit during removal, but now I know better, sorry. $75+shipping.

Plus one set of shock tower caps. I believe they are OEM. I never replaced them and I'm the 2nd owner of the car. $20+shipping.
