  1. Nice project. I am just back working on my 69 conv after pulling the engine about 12 years ago. Again with family life kept getting in the way. For front suspension you have several options. You can go radical and swap in a mustangII front suspension. One of the things I did in the past was to lower the front arms by the common 1.5 to 2 inches similar to what was done on the Shelby's. Then you can remove most of the tower up to where the old holes were and trim around the outer part all the way to the frame. What you will have left is the part the engine frame mount bolts to ( cut off at about the old upper arm level) and the center thicker are of the shock tower where the upper arm bolts to ( again cut off at the height of the old upper arm bolts). You should at this point add a 1/4" piece of plate to the inside of the remaining shock tower and brace it vie a triangular plate similar to what was done on the trans am bracing in the original tower. Then you will run a tube cage loop forward along the inner apron and across the radiator support like is common on most race cars, add a tube brace that runs from the top of the engine attaches to ( where you cut it off) and go up to the tube you just added along the inner aprons. Connect your coil over between this point and the upper arm Bob
  2. Unless you are drag racing it that 8" will be strong enough for what you want. Bob
  3. Looks like an 8" to me but it's easier to tell from looking at the pumpkin. It looks like 67 to 70 unit and not the 65-6 as the part where the shackle bolts do not neck down on yours like they do on the early cars Bob
  4. The strut rods are under lots of stress. I would not weld on them and risk any kind of embrittlement that can be caused by welding on them. Just hold both the bolt and the nut and tighten them up Bob
  5. If you are talking Fresno ca then I am near there You need someone to look at the car for you Bob
  6. Wonder if someone at the museaum made a deal with the devil and he was trying to collect on the debt Bob
  7. What does needing everything mean? Think about the base valuation system. Take the value when completely redone. Deduct the cost of the redo and then you have a rough current value Bob
  8. Never seen a hole through them. They are center drilled for the machining process on the spindle but never seen one that goes all the way through Bob
  9. How about the emergency flasher switch on the side of the column. Then for the actual emergency flashers you could rig a switch under the dash. If you want to convert the cig lighter there are several ways to do it. You could mount a togle switch behind the original lighter socket so you push the lighter in and it toggles the switch. You could also install a rotary flip switch like a barrel switch and the put the lighter knob on it. Then just rotate the knob to switch between OD and regular What steering wheel are you using. Some of the stock steering wheels have some extra room in there. You might could drill into the back web of the wheel and mount a small micro switch that you could just touch the button on to switch over
  10. True, and the stuff they use with the body shops that use the spot welders will work and can be gotten from a body shop supply place. My first option I would look at is to use the glue/bonding method Bob
  11. Heard about that, that is an awful shame. But you know it's just some corvettes, if it was mustangs they would already have a rescue mission under way for the cars Bob
  12. That car depending on condition and completeness is $15k to $50k I want it.....you don't want it Send me the number and I will remove all temptation you may be having Bob
  13. I need to look at my 69 conv At one time I converted to the 70 bolt in but I thought I left the 69 regulators in there. Bob
  14. You can put the seam sealer in and then clamp the panels together and spot weld With a sufficient size of spot welder it is not a problem and that's how the factories do it in areas where they know the seam will have water in it regularly. Even the modern body shops that have the right equipment can do this on the modern cars. For what you are doing I would say there are 2 ways I would approach it. One....you can get everything really clean and prepped and glue the seam together like is done on many of the newer cars. Factory and the body shops are often gluing the door skins to the door frame. Two... You can drill the holes in the upper panel and not in the lower. Add in the seam sealer and install the cowl and clamp the hell out of it. There will be sealer that will ooze from the holes so you will want to clean that up and scrape the metal under the hole to bare and start welding. Actually I guess the third way is like the second but you will apply the sealer and clamp the hell out of it and use a spot welder Bob
  15. Do you have the skills to install the qtr panels? Or are you going to have those put on? If you can handle the install of the qtr panels then I think you can handle the trunk lid. Remember that at the top of the qtr where you come up to the conv trim you may have to make that filler part as well. You will be cutting off the part that goes up to the roof and that will leave a fair sized hole. Where are you located? Bob
  16. Remember that both use the same bumper and rear valence so you will know that area is the same. From there the farther up you go the more the difference will be. If you only need that lower part I think it will work well for you Bob
  17. The newer engine will give you a better driver if you want to cruze and have rpfun with the car more often. That's what I would do That cleaver is more of a weekend brute Bob
  18. Just from my general knowledge of the cars You have the 3 bolts that hold the end cap on. From that bolt hole on the side downward it is very much the same as the coupe. From that hole upward the fastback goes straighter upward verses the coupe and conv that goes up and toward the center of the car Bob
  19. They did one of those on overhauling. The car needed qtr panels so they put the fastback ones on For the trunk lid they used the original conv trunk lid and a repo fastback lid and grafted them together. I have though about adding the Shelby stuff to my 69 conv because I like the look and I don't want to swap qtr panels. But if I had a car then needed the qtrs I would sure think about it Bob
  20. If it's the lower part then can you buy the fastback part and cut off and modify the part you need? Bob
  21. That would look cool if you took a piece of red lexan and cut it to shape and then get a piece of steel that has the honeycomb punched in it to put over it. If you had the patience you could even drill out the center of most of the honeycombs and put that piece back over it Bob
  22. Put is where the cigarette liter goes Add a nitrous switch to the shifter Bob
  23. Depends Do you have delux interrior car or a grande Bob
  24. It's just stamped metal, it can be done. It's only the upper corner that's really different How bad is yours and where is it bad Bob
  25. Also, I wonder what the effect would be to use a smoke grey type lexan and red LED lights behind it Bob
