RobotMan got a reaction from RPM in My Son Mike's 69 Mach 1 Restoration
As many members may have seen by now in another build thread, I have been restoring a Mach 1 with my oldest son Alex. That job is getting close to being done and has been an exciting, thrilling, and fulfilling process with my son for the last 2 yrs. Well, I am starting another 69 Mach 1 with my youngest son Mike. He is 12 yrs old and has been eagerly waiting his turn. That time has come!!! I have let him start disassembly as we are finishing the other car.

Here is Mike setting in his car eager to get going.

Here is Mike with welding gear on imitating dad.

    Mike removing the first bolt

Mike and I after removing radiator

    Rear window removed!!!

    And the journey begins again!!!
    More to come.

We installed a flow master exhaust system and started the rebuilt engine for the first time.  Broke the engine in for 20 minutes at about 2400 RPM and the goose bumps were a plenty.  My son was so excited he could not stand still.  We could not get over how nice a deep rich tone that 351W was making.  Have not got it ready to move yet.  Still got to bring the power brakes and power steering online before I can move it. But what an exciting and gut wrenching moment to hear that beauty purr for the first time!!!

Just thought I would share a pic of my son sitting in the finished rear interior of his Mach1. We used repo interior quarter panels from Ridge Runner. After painting to match interior they worked out great. Kudos to his craftsmanship.

Thanks we appreciate the good feedback on all of our hard work. Maybe our sharing will inspire someone else who is not sure whether or not they should tackle a project like this. If we can do it anyone can as long as you have the determination and longevity to finish!!! I tell my wife it is "an up at dawn, mind numbing siege!!!" sometimes. But what else allows you to have this much fun and spend quality time with your son.

We finished restoration of the instrument cluster today. Checked all of the gauges, replaced bulbs, lenses, bezel, and circuit board. Took all of the metal housings apart, blasted, painted, and clear coated. Amazing transformation!

I took 2 1.5 v batteries and put them in series for a total of 3 volts. Touched them off on the gauges and watched them move. It was pretty cool to verify their function before reassembly.

I bought a Scott Drake power steering hose support bracket that mounts to the lower motor mount on the drivers side. Unlike the original which mounted with a bolt on the end face of the motor mount this one somehow mounts from the side. The hole in it is not large enough for the main LCA bolt to go thru. Additionally I dont think I would like the bracket mounted on the bolt and eccentric washer that controls part of my wheel alignment. It also has a small stamped out hook on edge for catching an edge or hole. Anyone know how this is intended to be mounted. Thanks

The engine is a 351w-4v as close to stock as possible. It is has been bored .030 over. Nothing very special. What part were you saying would not work Barnette 468, the bigger fan or radiator?

We set the motor and were excited to see the motor mounts line up!!! I was worried about this since we replaced the shock towers way long ago. Caught my son wiping the chrome on the valve covers😄

My son is aggravated that school has started back and he can't spend as much time in the shop as we did this summer.  I told him to try and focus on school and we will continue to work on it when we can.

$200 a pair ,like said though shipping has been the problem because they  do not stack well so it takes a large box
I just sent a set to Florida for $89 shipping ,i didn't think that was to bad .

The last quarter has been finished. Also fitted the rear valence. It was very important to leave lower end of each quarter loose until fitting the valance. The rear of the car body work is complete.
