  1. I am in the process of replacing the cowl assy and firewall on my son's 69 Mach 1. Noticed during the demolition, there was alot of seam sealer type goop between the firewall and cowl assy. I was thinking seam sealer would be applied after welding. If seemed the sealer was between the joint and could not have been squirted in post welding. Is there a product or process I am not familiar with? When is the proper time to seal this joint. Before or after welding? Thanks for your help in advance.
  2. Thanks for all the input guys. Could you further explain what a boss reinforcement plate and roller spring perches are? Again, my goal is to make my sons car handle better if he gets in trouble as a daily driver not for track or racing hopefully (he will be a teenage 16 yr old boy when we are done). Ordered tin man subframe connectors and drake export brace and Monte Carlo bar last night. I noticed several sites promoting the drive shaft safety loop. What are your thoughts on this. The car will have a stock 351W. Rick
  3. As I posted in a previous post I am starting a restoration with my 14 yr old son of a 69 Mach, 351 W. We just finished welding in new front floor support rail extensions, torque boxes, and the transmission support member. I will be ready soon to install a 1 piece floor from the firewall to back. I have much more body work including shock towers, rear trunk floor, quarters, wheel wells, etc. I am doing a medium restoration and not overly concerned with keeping it original. I am mostly interested in making it safe for my sons first car. I am thinking of adding a 1 PC firewall to shock tower brace, a Monte Carlo bar, and possibly connectors between the front floor support rails and rear support rails in order to improve handling. Any suggestions of what extras to add in this or any other areas would be appreciated. Also what brands are good for these after market parts Thanks for your help Robotman
  4. Sorry, 69Droptopgt, did not see a link or item you were referring too in your post. Thanks in advance for your help.
  5. Does anyone know of a reference that indicates the colors and finish (i.e. flat, satin, semi'gloss, etc.) of various parts around the car. Working on my son's restoration and are ready to start painting a few pieces we have sandblasted under the dash area, under the hood, etc. Was not sure if should prime and paint black flat or semi-gloss. Also, would all be nice to know a reference number for good quality rattle can paint (maybe Krylon) or something and primer. Again not doing a full blown restoration, buy a middle ground one for my son's first car. Thanks in advance for the input.
  6. Yes it looks like the pic. Thanks for the input.
  7. My buddy has a Tremec TR-3650 transmission I could get with low miles. What are your thoughts on it. Thanks for the input.
  8. Thanks for the welcome guys. Thanks for the responses also. Have not even picked out transmission yet but was making sure I was not going to put myself in a corner when I welded the old support back in.
  9. I am beginning restoration of a 69' Mach with my 14 yr old son for his first car. The car is a rust bucket and requires lots of body work. I am in the middle of putting in a full piece floor pan, floor supports, etc. I have a 351 W for it and am planning to put a more modern 5 spd trans in it. For this transmission conversion does the transmission cross support need to be put in later possibly in a different position to fit the new tranny or can it be put in original position. Thanks in advance for your help
