  1. Hello 69ers. I recently bought a 69 Mach 1 that has some rust. ( go figure ) The posts on both sides of the windshield have rust holes in them and need to be replaced, along with a rust hole on the top lip of the roof and both sides and bottom of the rear window. The drip ledge on both sides are really messed up also, So my plan was to replace both rear 1/4 panels, the trunk bar at the bottom of the rear window and the roof, but I can not find those front windshield pillar posts. Several folks at VMF have said that there are no after market posts and either I fabricate patches or find a Junker car to cut them off of. Well Iam not much of a metal fabricator and do not have the tools and equipment to do so, so Iam left with finding an old car with the pillar posts or complete roof still intact. Dose any one in Texas know where I can find such a car? I assume that it would need to be a 69 or 70 fast back.
  2. Hello everybody, I hear a lot about A & B pillars, but what about the post that sits on top of the pillars all the way up both sides of the windshield to the roof. Not sure what they are called, windshield pillars, door frame, posts? I cannot find any parts or any body that has replaced them. Is there some one here that has any experience with replacing those? I think Pete at VMF alluded to patching them, but that would require some serious fabrication, and someone else said to go to a junk yard and cut them out of a parts car. Any help?
  3. I will be replacing the trunk floor and rear quarter panels, front shock towers and what ever else needs replacing while I have the back end tore apart. I read that you should install the new sheet metal with the weight of the car sitting on the tires to make sure that the panels get properly aligned and the car is sitting square. I then plan on putting the car on a rotisserie to dismantle the suspension and clean up the underside. The cowling and floors have already been replaced by someone else.
  4. Hello every one, I would like to thank every one for there input on replacing the front suspension. I have a question about the floor pans. I took my car into a reputable shop to have the floor pans and cowling replaced. I recently got the car back and was under the car this last weekend to look at the work and noticed that where the floor pan sits on top of the front rail there were gaps. There were a few spot welds but there was no welds running the length of the rail. It seems to me that these gaps would trap dirt and road junk to the point that it would start rusting out again. Iam I wrong in thinking that the shop short cut the job ? Does any one have a picture of the front rails on there car so that I can see if Iam wrong or right? I paid these guys a lot of money to replace the floor and thought I would get a top quality job.
  5. Hello every body. Its the new guy with a Mach 1 to restore. Since I have never driven one of these cars I would like to know why do you change out the FMX, which is what my car came with. My car still has the original 351W and the FMX transmission.
  6. First of all I would like to say hello to every body in Mustang land. I recently purchased a 1969 Mach 1 to restore. I have had the cowling, kick panels and floors replaced. There is still some sheet metal work on the rear 1/4`s and trunk to do, but Iam going to wait on that and work on rebuilding the suspension and brakes over the winter. So I have read a few posts on several sites about suspensions but have not really been able to get much information as to what kit would be the best for the money. I do know that I do not have a lot of money. This car will be a daily driver and will never see a drag strip or race track, not to say I will never get into a friendly run with a Chevy but nothing serious. I would like a nice smooth ride with good handling on the freeway or a country road for a nice weekend cruze with the wife. The shop that did the sheet metal was going to put a Grab-A-Trac suspension in it but I have read that the bushings in those squeak to much. So what do you guys think? for a DIY`er.
